I said why did you do that he said it won't kill him, just gives him a sore a ss.
I am contemplating on calling the MNR but not sure what they could do , my word against his.
    What would you do?
I guess you have to be pragmatic and decide what reporting this incident would mean to you.If your a passenger in this truck does that mean
if you reported this you would have to find another means of travel home?Would reporting it mean you might no longer be part of this group?

I would not worry about it being your word against his because he is in the hot seat with the investigating officer not you. They will try to tie him into a statement, the location will be checked, they will be looking for a casing and checking the gun.Somewhere along the line this guy might decide it's better to clear up the matter.Personally I would not hunt with this guy again, maybe he was showing some bravado and did not think this matter out before he pulled the trigger.

But there are several offences laid out here and you are the key witness should you chose to be one.

Rather than take the risk of being charged as an accessory and also risking the wrath of the group,I think you're better off with 1-800-222-TIPS and give them all the info you can. He'll wonder how they found out, but, there's a chance someone saw him do it and reported. Your conscience will be clear because you did the right thing. From now on,hang with a better class of people.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Should he decided to testify and attempt to refute your testimony, he would be subject to cross-examination by the prosecutor. A good prosecutor should be able to make him out to be a liar.
You're assuming that he will be charged by the MNRF? They will only lay charges if there is proof (in the officer's opinion) of a violation. After the charge is laid, it is then up to the Crown Attorney whether or not they want to proceed. That's my take on it but maybe one of the ex-law enforcement forum members will explain it better.

When you realized what he was about to do, you should of spoke up immediately, and let him know that you WOULD report him if he pulled the trigger

There are a couple of odd things about this. You must have known he was driving around with a loaded firearm, so By knowing this and driving with him you are condoning his illegal behaviour. Just the fact that you are asking what you should do after seeing him shoot the bear with a .22 seems a little odd. H3 broke a number of laws and is also an unethical person. ( I won’t call him a hunter because he should not be grouped with the rest of us).
The only thing you should have done is to contact the MNR and report him right away. You should also tell him you will not hunt with him any more because he broke several laws and he is an unethical person. Find someone else to hunt with, this guy is trouble.

He already stepped up the moment he started this thread. Give him some slack it's not as easy to do for many . So many would be caught up in the what to do. Since he posted it on publicly he has already stepped up.

Not every one is so open to rat out what they thought could of been a friend.

Shame on you for saying he is contributing a bad name fir hunters.

It's not as easy as some might think it is.
