Well it seems that there is a way, other than confrontation, to stop them from fishing Lobster....
Mike Sack, chief of the Sipekne'katik First Nation, issued a statement today saying the band has also been blacklisted by lobster buyers.
"The (non-Indigenous) commercial fishery has systematically boxed us out of the market," Sack said in a statement. "It will take time to rebuild our relationships in the supply chain of people and companies we did business with who are now rightly afraid of retaliation."
Amid the rising tension, the First Nation says it can't sell lobster caught by those taking part in its moderate livelihood fishery in St. Marys Bay or the band's commercial operation in the Bay of Fundy.
"It's like we've been blacklisted, and we're just hopeful that we can quickly come to some resolution and expedite getting our lobster to market," Sack said.
"Pulling our commercial fishery this week and for the upcoming seasons will financially devastate our community,"

That does not settle this. I did a bit of reading and it seems to me the Chief and the band are cherry picking what part of the treaty they wish to honour.
Like I said there is a simple solution the FN just needs to fishing during the season if they fish at any other time they have no right what so ever to say they are the environmental stewards.
If they follow the rules none of this would be happening, they also should be happy that Taxpayers paid for their boats as most Lobster Fishers have to take out a 1.5 million dollar loan for a boat.

Oh it doesn't settle the bigger issue...but as far as this season goes, they have at least pulled their boats of the water.
Like you said earlier this has been on going for many many years. There needs to be a Government that isn't afraid to tell them to smarten up and play by the rules....that won't happen under the present one.

It's friggin' amazing, isn't it? Try illegal fishing in American or Russian waters and see what happens. Not in Canada, though, sucker nation of the world. We need to sink a few boats and toss their crews in jail for a couple of years just to send a message. Won't happen with our government, though.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Having spoke recently with several of my cousins who fish nearby, until the FN follows the seasons for Lobster for the area this will not end.

I found this video amusing, but it was the comments that I found disturbing.
https://torontosun.com/news/local-ne...-attack-on-car
They blame the OPP for posting the above video out of context? Where have I heard that before - LOL......but the shoe was on the other foot. I do not know what preamble that you can spin on this video to make this behavior close to being acceptable. Like it or not we live in a civilized society and civilized people do not turn cars over and block public roads & railways, loot and vandalize.
I would love them to try this crap in the US, Europe or any other civilized country.
