I think most of if not all of us have stated that we would move on if we encountered other hunters who are in the field at that moment in time. IMO that is showing respect. IMHO, trying to stake out an area of Crown land in advance of the season by posting signs is disrespectful to other hunters. I think if the club had a physical presence in the area (such as a camp set up), most of would give it a wide berth. What would trouble me however is trying to determine how much land the club reasonably needs especially in an area facing a lot of competition for access.

In my hunting career I’ve had multiple times where I have entered crown land and found another hunter, no biggie move on to another spot. Had that same hunter posted signage on said crown land stating he is staking claim to the area for the season I would most definitely have an issue with it. Anyone that enjoys crown land hunting opportunities should. If a guys truck is parked yeah common sense would dictate move along to another area. If signs are present and no vehicles/atv’s around then I’d say good to go hunting wise and tough luck for the guy that shows up. Hopefully he has the decency or courtesy to do as most hunters would and adjust his location as to not affect either of our hunts.

Access to hunting property is literally the biggest threat facing today’s hunters. Posting/signing/staking claim to property that you don’t hold a title to and discouraging others enjoying it whether hunting/birdwatching/hiking/mushroom picking etc goes against what ethical people do.

If people are posting a sign where they are hunting in the immediate area that day then more power to them and gives notice to others that active hunting is taking place and makes sense for everybody safety wise. To post signs on a tract of public land for entire year or season whether or not they are actively hunting the area is deceitful and unsportsmanlike if you took a poll....
I think this can be viewed from 2 sides-the one who loses, and the one who wins.
I am with Trimmer -bullies have no place in hunting world.

I have hunted a public land in 82a.Free for public use ,some nice places.
The area i am talking about is 100 acres. Right beside( is-was)maybe they sold it by now-it was posted for Sale past spring,a 200 acre old farm, owned by some rich guys( i mean ,filthy rich,5-6 big SUV in rifle season ,otherwise the place is empty year round).Based on what i saw and Google told me-they have made it! Deer paradise.River, ditch full of water, mixed forest, some agriculture-and a 100 acre public land as a neighbour(so they can hunt that one too,if wanted to-and no worries about an Anti neighbour)
Yet those millionaires (i just called them Toronto lawyers and dentist-sorry,no offence)were not happy with their piece of paradise.they wanted more.
So they staked out 20% of the Public land with No Trespassing-Private Propety signs!Right where with the signage they literally cut off access to the deep end of the place(ditch running thru the lot-and there is only one passable spot on the ditch-and they simply posted it out of reach ,with their new imaginary property lines).I hunted there before ,and had some "old"knowledge of the lay of the land.Never hunted it as a primary area, maybe total 5 times in 10 years.....was always eyeballing it for late season muzzleloader ,yet did active shed hunting there about each spring .
I was shocked and hurt though(you rich a....ses,your wealth is not enough ,you want to take from the little guy.....).
So-i phoned the CA,and asked for a map.Just to make sure. They gave me one,and yep-i was right,my understanding of the lay of the land was correct.

So next time around while there,i threw all their easily accessible Private Property signage in the ditch .
    Never again they posted anything.

Bowjob, the area i am talking about is part of series of properties from a CA which has them posted as free for use. They are all clearly posted at entry points, with detailed description of all activities allowed there.
82 a is a big WMU,and there are few CA-s(Grand River Conservation,Grey County Forests,GreySauble and then the Saugeen Valley Conservation )probably more ,these are the ones i know.
If You hunt South 82a let me know, maybe we can meet up ............

It’s simple, you can’t post public land. The intended use is for the public so it’s not yours. That being said common curtesy should apply, if you see other hunters or a vehicle or anything indicating someone is hunting in the area then move on. Even for your own safety and there’s it’s a good idea to move. Keep safe

    I figure it’s between 7-10 square kms
spanning at least 3 access roads and numerous atv trails

Those signs aren't anything to be concerned with. Signs like them can be found all over the province, especially, the snow mobile signs that have nothing to do with hunting. Nice signs, though, but, they have absolutely nothing to do with No Trespassing, either. If I were you,I'd hunt the area, anyway. If you run into other hunters, give them a wide berth, wave and keep on truckin'. Don't give "stepping on toes" another thought. It's a big woods and there's room for everyone.
At one time, there was a clause in The TPAct that named posting illegal signage as an offense with a fine up to $35K for violators. I can't find it,now,or maybe it was removed.

If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....
