I have an AirBNB booked in Cherry Valley near East Lake next weekend to do some waterfowl hunting with a friend from the GTA. I was wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom for hunting in the area. Should we bring some goose floaters or will they likely be all gone by then? Also are west and east lake decent for hunting or should we stick to the big water? Plan is to scout point petre Friday and go from there. Hoping to find anything other than Longtails (Oldsquaw).

Wellers Bay, over to Presquille is where you find most of the birds. Buffs, Goldeneye, Redhead, and Oldsquaw. I wouldn't bother with the goose decoys. Bluebill decoys and Buff and Goldeneye dekes will draw most of the birds. Hunt can be quite good at the park.

Thanks will look into that. Are there lots of blinds on Wellers Bay or is it mostly hunting from shore / boat? Would be over the moon if I got a redhead.

All waters around around there will have ducks.

East L, West L, Bay of Quinte - muscote, hay, etc etc. Lake Ontario- Smiths, South etc etc

If you don't want Longtail s I would be scouting those areas before Point Peter.

You will need a boat however.

Thanks! We'll have a boat. There is so much promising looking water in that area!

First - the geese never leave here ... I shoot just as many at Christmas as the rest of the season ... Second - what you may find most out here are outfitters.

At least that's what they call them selves. I've seen some pretty shady stuff down that way over the years LOL
