re: grouse # last few weeks

Hey all, not looking for any specific spots....more curious if any have been out lately and how are the #'s. Was thinking of doing one last drive for the season but not really sure as I've never gone this late before
Any info will be appreciated

They pretty much disappeared the last couple of weeks. Not seeing any at all around here?

Same here, I hunt just north of Barrie and I was seeing good numbers throughout October, but haven’t seen any for the last 2-3 weeks. My guess is that they have moved to nearby properties with thicker cover after the first snowfall and colder temps, but I can’t say for sure.

Good numbers where I hunt. Yesterday 4-5, Monday 7 birds.

So just got back from a hunt west of Barrie. Stella had 2 solid points on grouse. The first didn't see it on the flush the second just saw a blur of wings. 2 weeks ago moved 6 there. Last week was around orillia on a tip marked a few. My problem this year is haven't had a clear shot at them.
In general would say there are some around, very spooky and elusive.

I like hunting them with a bit of snow on the ground. You could see there tracks and hopefully it leads to there general area.

I'm still getting flushes,but,not as many as before the Deer hunt. I'm not seeing many rabbits,either.

The population looks very good where I hunt, and I am still seeing plenty of birds.
Finding the small spots the birds like to tag along seems to be the ticket. And some birds do hold incredibly tight sometimes.
I got the habit now to walk extremely slow through the good spots I know, & it seems to be working.
Got 6 southerners this season so far, including one bird down and 4 flushed last weekend.

Sounds like we follow the same method. Slow and quiet seems to fool them. It also gives the opportunity to hear them shuffling away before taking flight.

I've been away from the grouse woods but I do know numbers are good where I hunt as I've flushed and heard plenty while deer hunting.
