Electric cars are great as inner city grocery getters where the drives are short and there is an abundance of infrastructure to support charging them. I'd get one for kicking around town but would never plan a long trip with one. I can see 2 car families with one electric and one gas/diesel.

My sister has a Chevy Volt....had it a few years now (rebate from Wynne) and she has to be always on top of how far she can drive and where she can recharge. It is cool to drive, instant torgue and very quiet.
I can see it as a great Old People car on lease (avoid repair bills) and only driven a few miles on Sunday and for groceries.

That Summer we had the blackout across Ontario, I was still able to fill my car up in minutes. I would have to see a 150% guarantee that I will always be able to charge the car regardless or it's a no go. If you run out of electricity I wonder how they carry 20 liters of energy to your car.

Has too much time on their hands
The problem with mandating electric cars - is no one has considered the electrical draw it will place on the grid, both in residential and urban settings. Do you think in the next 10 yrs, when the average energy consumption on each node the system is designed to handle the average 200 AMP panels that are planned in neighbour hoods. QC has the best chance of meeting this need, however, Ontario would be hard pressed to meet demand.
This another reason why it is all window dressing, political posturing. It will not be practical for at least another 100 yrs.
Please don't even say increasing Wind and Solar will fix the problem, as we all know it isn't reliable for consistent power requirements and cannot not even meet basic daily needs. The only other option is nuclear??? no thanks. Not yet.
62% of all Ontario's power comes from Nuke now

My old neighbour across the street started 6 yrs ago with a Kia Sol Electric, and two yrs got a Tesla S coupe. This spring the moved out the city and into the country and kept the Tesla, got rid of the Kia (still 94% battery life and service left), and bought the Volkswagen diesel they original got rid of.

I think the way things are going the Eco-Nazis will have to advance the 'multi fuel' technology...I'm sure they can come up with a veggie based fuel to power a Transport truck full of toilet paper to Walmart

There already is,called Bo-Diesel that burns used cooking oil. That's the stuff that stinks like a cadaver after it drives passed you.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

I don't think that particular mind set would like us using 'Animal Fat' so they would have to ensure it's 100% plant based...HaHa

Took 9 hours for this couple to travel 130 miles in their new electric Porsche.

I would imagine it's going to take alot of work to get these charging stations in the North. We did a drive around Ontario the beginning of August . After Hurst I think it's 500 km to the next gas station.
I wouldn't want the hassle of stopping and charging all the time. Long travel will be a nightmare power shortages after storms . Who has time to sit around and charge up to get home . Some places would have to make room for many vehicles all Charing at the same place .
