As the title says, what is good lead worth to re loaders. It possible I could get a hold of some if it's worth my time.

If you buy lead ingots (already cleaned and processed) off eBay you pay about $l /lb US.

Someone told me raw lead had has a market value around $.50/lb

I just bought 30lbs the other day of used lead flashing for $10 at the Restore.

edit add: GW..I see that it has gone up in price down south since i last bought it...looks like it's over $2 US/lb now for processed ingots

Scrap yard buys it at 50 cents, however I might know of someone who will sell it to me at scrap price, not sure if he has yet. Yes this is all lead 1300 pounds from an old sail boat.

If it is pure it might be worth while if you can get it for a good price. It is always a big job to melt it into manageable ingots. Cutting large chucks of lead is not easy and takes some work to be safe and not cause too much contamination of your work site/garage.

I have also found it is a real challenge to truly get pure for muzzle loader and shotgun slugs.

The lead I got at the Restore was donated after the fella found it while doing some renos. It was flashing that was used on a brick wall where it meet the wood at the top. Lucky find.

Do you not have to alloy this scrap lead before it's good for casting bullets? I've heard of using old tire balance weights and adding tin or antimony to the melt pot. Wonder if scuba belt weights would be good for bullets?

Yes, they work great. I did up a bunch a few months back...picked them up a few years back at an auction, over 60lbs for $5...

And yes , I've heard you have to add a hardener like antimony for cast bullets. I personally only use pure soft lead bullets for my Black Powder shooting.

This is my new setup for working with lead..

GW, I have all kinds of the stuff in 1 pound ingots and could eventually get some off to you...I have a daughter in Constance Bay which isn't too far from you?? I should be seeing her around Christmas sometime.
