Presquile and inflatable boat

planning to head down to Presquile this week, friday hunting hopefully.

the marsh side will most likely be frozen now, but can anyone familiar with the area advice me on closest Blinds to the boat launch area ?

Im taking an inflatable boat, as no rack to take the canoe down this week ... would I be able to walk to the blinds with Waders ?

You can walk to most of the blinds on the outside (lake Ontario side) , but not the marsh.

You can, for the most part, set up, and retrieve birds with waders at all the blinds on the lake side, but a boat or dog is mandatory. The inflatable will work if you get a long cripple, or cant retrieve with waders, as long as its not too rough out there. Calling for a south wind friday, so i would expect it to be fairly rough.

Blind 11 is closest to the lake ontario side launch. Its just a beach you launch from. Then 12, 14, and 15 would be next closest. Get there early (like late at night) if you want a decent spot.

it was great ! not that busy. the rain warning kept ppl at home I guess.

marsh side was frozen, holding some birds but not much.

Lake O side was full of birds off shore, once in a while some groups of them would come close.
only got a couple birds, but was amazing overall.

Thanks for the report. It sounds like you're hooked on Presqu'ile . Which blind were you able to get? We used to hunt there a fair bit and that's about they way it goes there. We sat there once all day watching birds fly around and expected a skunk but then about 3:30 had a big group came in and managed 8 bluebills between my dad and myself. How many dekes did you put out, it makes a difference?

Made it to the second Island, I think those are the best spots, and blonds on both sides, so can choose what works best on the day based on the wind and clouds.

first day I had 6 ducks, 6 canada goose, and a mojo ... didnt do much. maybe the geese scared the birds away lol

second day I went with one mojo only. it worked amazingly well. lonely male was more apealing to them I guess ?!

Days are running out but thinking of swapping a woodcock hunt next year for a good ol' late season duck hunt

I liked the outside island as well but you need to keep one eye on the weather and one on the ducks as it can get rough quickly. When we put out dekes, we used 4 long lines of 12 whistler and bluebill and a few bufflehead dekes. Be careful crossing between the two outside islands, a few boats have gone down crossing there.
