    Default Ladder Stand Recommendations

I’m looking at getting a couple of ladder stands to set up some new spots. I’ve always used a climber, but my dad can’t. Essentially I’m looking for something pretty solid and comfortable. What’s everyone using these days?

    thanks

I Can't comment as to the name brands but we have found the stands that use round tubing are far quieter than the others.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

I have a few of the cheaper ones and they are good. Three have been left up for about 5 years and a couple taken down and stored inside. All are good so far. Need to remember to inspect ladder and ratchet strap before use each year. I recommend a two seater for comfort and a spot to place things. Also make sure it has the drop down bar/ shooting rest on the front. My single stand doesn’t have one and I sure wish it did.

All I can say is that they are a bi--- to get up especially if your trying it solo. I can manage a single seat one by myself but a double one pretty well impossible. Be interesting to hear if anybody has devised a simple system for pulling these stands up. If they made them from aircraft aluminum would be great but the cost would be through the roof.

We use Gig Game Stands on our property - for the price I feel they hold up very well. We have a variety of styles 3 double stands, 3 single stands, 2 tree hangers with a TV antenna ladders, and one Big Game Hunter HD 1.5 (new this year). The doubles are great for room especially late season when you have layers, backpack and a crossbow - they have a nice wide ladder, and an nice large standing platform. The single ladder stands do the trick but the standing platform is not that large, and late season, especially with extra layers and bow, you can definitely feel cramped. I used a stainless steel cable tie and secured a hook to the outside frame so that you can hang your pack out of the way but accessible. These stands are easy to assemble and can be hung by one person - the double stand is definitely a 2 man job.

New this year our Big Game Hunter HD 1.5. This is an amazing stand - wider ladder, wider seat, heavier gauge steel (higher weight capacity), and super comfortable to sit. My only complaint is the shooting rail - I think it is too high so I just leave it up when I sit in it. We will probably replace the last remaining tree hangers with the HD for 2021. IMHO this would be my choice as you can just feel the quality of the stand vs their standard offering.

I’ve put them up alone many times. Mine are not expensive, so maybe lighter, but seem solid and can be a one man job. It sure nice to have that second man to help carry, ladder, seat and saw.

Been using these Rivers edge wide stands the past few years. Other than squirrels or birds chewing the arm padding, they've held up quite well a few seasons outside. https://www.huntriversedge.com/Product/relax-wide-2832. I hunt with a couple bigger guys and they seem to like the extra room in the stands

I've got 3 big game 2 man ladder stands. 2 big buddys that are close to 15 years old and have grown into the tree so much that they wont come down until the tree comes down. Can't think of the model of my latest one but like that it has a flip up rail and shooting platform that does a 180 around the tree. All were $200 or less. Need a cushion as they are not as comfy as the ones with the mesh seats. I'm 6'4" and pushing 3 hunid and have plenty of room in them for me and my gear. I only look at stands that have double ratchet straps. Just gives me an extra feeling of security even though I haven't had one break yet.
