Default Prisoners on the High Priority for Vaccine

Just caught a segment during my dinner News that Prisoners have been bumped to the #2 position on the priority list for the vaccine.

The Conservatives are condemning a COVID-19 vaccine rollout plan that will prioritize some federal prisoners — a plan advocates say is a sound policy that will protect vulnerable people both inside and outside the prison system.

Conservative public safety critic Shannon Stubbs and Quebec Conservative MP Richard Martel issued a statement today calling it "outrageous" that incarcerated criminals could receive vaccines before some seniors in long-term care homes, front line healthcare workers, first responders and correctional officers.

"Government data from this past year shows that prison outbreaks have been isolated. The reality is that the federal government's failure to secure sufficient vaccine supply for all Canadians means that difficult choices must be made. Conservatives believe vaccinating the most vulnerable first must be the government's top priority," the statement reads.
"Justin Trudeau needs to do the right thing and ensure that vulnerable seniors, front-line medical staff, and other essential workers are first in line for the vaccine."

Public Safety Minister Bill Blair confirmed that about 600 federal inmates who are elderly or have pre-existing health conditions will be vaccinated on a priority basis. He said the federal government is following the advice of the national advisory committee on immunization, which identified congregate living settings, including prisons, as "high risk" locations.

    mixed thoughts.
Like LTCs cramped quarters just begging for outbreaks. Corrections officers, lawyers, and more go in and out on a daily basis. Wouldn't take much to create big problems. Now consider where most facilties are located. Small towns......away from the gentiles. Would decimate those towns

All the terrorists (or freedom fighters) depending on your point of view at Guantanamo Bay, will be offered the vaccine.

Ain't that a bi**h! When the state takes custody of a citizen, they're 100% responsible for the citizen's well-being. If that includes guaranteeing their health, then, that's just something we have to live with. The Conservatives really need to watch their rhetoric with this one.

I heard it's only about 600 people who need right away it's not like they will be taking all of them and injecting all the prisoners . Only most vulnerable the elderly and anyone with a compromise immune system.

Well Tigboy304 did we invade their country with phoney WMD evidence, then kill thousand's of innocent civilians?
Was it for democracy, when the US troops secured the oil field first and let the banks and museums get looted

Why did America think it could take Afghanistan when at the high of the British Empire they got their ars-- kicked.

Then America committed the worse atrocity they encouraged the common folk in Egypt ,Libya, Syria to take up arms and fight for their freedom, but then did nothing to support them in the end.

So who exactly are the terrorists, the Americans are all warm and fuzzy towards Saudi Arabia and that is where the 9/11 terrorists originated.

The hand of God is on America for their past follies and its not going to be pretty, when you invoke God's name you better not be taking it in vain.

Gotta go with Jben on this one. A prison would be a hot bed of potential infections and the staff are very susceptible to it and spreading it throughout the community. Its a tough one to swallow, but I can see the reasoning.
