You may be allowed a centre fire rifle in your area. The restriction could simply be for the deer hunt only?
It all depends on which WMU you are hunting and local bylaws in effect.
For example, an area I hunt is shotgun only for deer but you can use a rifle for coyotes.

I live in WMU 65 where for deer hunting it is Shotgun only but for coyotes any size goes. My son and I were out with the 270 yesterday but didn't see anything.

The shotgun only areas including for everything is a common misconception. "Shotguns only-no dogs" apply for the two week gun hunt for Deer ONLY in specific southern Ontario municipalities as found listed in The Summary. It's also important to read, know and understand that rifles of .275 caliber and smaller may be used for varmint/predator/small game hunting in southern Ontario municipalities clearly listed on pg.91 of The Summary. In all those WMU's that have BIG game seasons, larger caliber rifles and shotguns loaded with heavier shot may be used, too. The regulation that dictated that hunters using C/F rifles for small game must possess big game licenses during an open season (Black Bear) has ,also, been rescinded.

If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

I hunt with both shotgun and rifle, if I'm hunting with a shotgun I try and get into some brush areas and sit tight to the call if using electronic, or I just use a hand call. Call fast and hard for a minute then shut up and see what happens. Most shots will be close and fast so be ready. Other then that its coyote hunting so unpredictable most of the time. Good luck.

This is interesting, thanks for clearing that up for me. I remember reading that in the regs somewhere but I did not know you could use a .270 in shotgun only zones.

These regs get so confusing sometimes lol almost like you need to be a lawyer in some of the ways its written [emoji23]
