Powder /bullet combo

Whats everyone's go to powder and bullet/combo for an inline 50.
Whats the cleanest burning powder I should be trying?
I know everyone's guns shoot differently but hope to narrow it down on the new gun on the way...thanks

Here what I have been using with my CVA Wolf..... After two or 3 shots it gets really hard to push the bullet down so I have made it a point to give a quick ram after every shot....
I get a 2.5-3 inch group at 100 yds... 2 777`s and a 300 sst bullet

I use a Traditions Pursuit 50 cal., 777 pellets (2), 240 gr Hornaday sabot. I clean barrel after every third shot. Two inch groups at 100 yds. I've muzzleloader hunted 3 seasons, 3 shots taken, 3 bucks down!

Using pellets will automatically give you a thicker Crud Rings and dirtier barrel because you are using more powder that can burn in a short (28" ) barrel ML. Most shooters find 80-85gr of powder gives the best accuracy (you're shooting 100gr with pellets)

Like H-Man says, just get in the habit of swabbing between shots..

Spend twice as much, $80+ for 10 oz (less than 1lb) and switch to BH209 . It's burns cleaner.

2 triple 7’s and a Barnes 250 grain blue tip. I can’t see spending the money for blackhorn just so it’s a bit cleaner.

Also your primers can be dirtier depending on brand. I use the blue CCI as well as the green Remingtons, sorry to say that offhand I don't remember which burns cleaner offhand, but 1 does.

I've never figured out why everyone gets so concerned about whether or not the powder burns clean. Who cares if it leaves a crud ring ? It's a one shot deal 99.9% of the time in my experience. It's not like you're going to be taking multiple shots, and big deal, you get into the routine that you swab and lube after every shot (at least that's what my wife and I do). No matter how " dirty" the powder burns, you'll still be capable of loading a second round if it was ever needed. 63 ML deer now between the two of us and there's never been a second shot needed. You only take the shot when you're sure you have a good heart/lung vitals hit. Pull the trigger and it's a dead deer. We both shoot cheap Thompson Omegas. 250 grain TC Shockwave (yellow tip) with 100 grains of loose Triple Seven FFG. Both scoped guns cloverleaf at 100yds off the bench (usually MOA or better). TC Triumph, another cheap ML, shoots just as well with this load combo.

Last summer I used primarily Goex FFg for most of my ML shooting....talk about dirty.

Not an issue with me, love to take time after a day on the range cleaning up the guns...bonus; it makes the shop smell nice too Haha.

Yup - my homemade BP is even dirtier...lol But rocks like nothing I have shot yet. Maybe when it warms up I will drop by and we can bang some BP load from shotguns w/steel shot.
