    Pretty sad .

They are taking guns away from law abiding citizens and say they did a wonderful job lol.

They don't care about safer streets.

You might not be so quick to jerk your knee into your chin after you listen to what this lawyer has to say about the bill?

I hadn't seen this opinion, but,it sounds reasonable. I particularly dislike the "reverse onus" for gaining bail nor am I the least bit impressed with the Crown plea bargain deal for someone who may very well be innocent.

I am a subscriber to this guy's Youtube channel and I find a lot of his analysis and opinion to be very interesting when he breaks down various court decisions and/or law that applies to us, J.Q. Public. He does a good job explaining things to the layman and I just happened to watch this video last night. I also have respect for Lorne Gunter, but I think he missed the boat on this one?

    He has some good points.
    However, what is the problem?

    Gang bangers
    Smuggling
A revolving door, soft on crime justice system.
    One year for smuggling?
    That’s ludicrous.

Bills can be amended, before becoming “law” can they not?
    3rd readings, the senate etc?

The NDP and Libs shot this down before it had a chance. Which speaks volumes.

It appears to be a faulty law at best which will not stand up to judicial scrutiny and especially at the SCC level.

The Conservatives tend to over reach with their laws and Mr. Harper found that minimum mandatory sentences will not be upheld by the Court as many offend the charter. We don't want to down the American road where folk's are routinely railroaded into pleading guilty to an offence they never committed by agreeing to a lesser punishment in order to avoid the maximum.

That may true Gilroy. But that's why there are rather lengthy procedures from 3 readings to committees in the senate. To make changes...

    Either way,
What is pretty clear at this point, is that the left is soft on crime and really isn't all that interested in tackling the problem. It's just easier to appear to be doing something, especially when it makes for good headlines.

Btw and I do know the answer...
what's your take on community policing ( nice left wing, headline grabbing, warm and fuzzy term). That does little to combat the problem.
