Personally any of the back lakes I fish for spake I have my best luck in 5 to 10 ft of water jigging a 1/4 oz gold or silver jigging spoon tipped with a minnow and I always have a still line with 4-way spreader tipped with minnows that has produced nicely as well to.

Splake are finicky critters after getting a bit of pressure. One day they will be on shallow drop offs and weed beds like a Speck and the next you will find them in 40 feet of water acting like a laker.

Best advice is to be there early, find your spot and set up if an hour offers nothing pick up and try a different spot. Recently used holes are something I tend to avoid as thats where the little fellas will be.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?
