In answer to the guy who couldn't respect God because He allows such evil and bad things to happen - first off scripture tells us that this life we have on earth is only temporary and isn't a our real home - it also tells us that God is Holy and one who has sinned can ever see or be with Him - everyone has sinned so no one is worthy to be in the present of God - but He did provide a way of being forgiven - God never promised a rose garden in this life in fact Jesus told his followers to daily pick up your cross and follow me - when man sinned against God He cursed the world and the consequence is seen every day -
When exploring the question - is there a God - your answer will pretty much determine how you live - those that say there is no God have a very difficult time explaining how this universe can to be - all this talk about billion or trillion years ago some thing alive came crawling out of a soupy slime does not have an answer where the slime came from - they can't explain how it all started - the Scriptures tell us that God created the universe plain and simple - the other question that is asked is who was this Jesus - was He really who He said He was - even his enemies acknowledged that he performed miracles - he claimed that he came to provide a way to be forgiven of sins and a way be reconciled with God
Finally in answer to those that keep pointing to things so-called Christian religions did in the past - when you read what Jesus taught you easily find out that what was done by this so-called Christians did not follow His teaching - he taught to love everyone, to take care of the poor, to turn the other cheek etc. - don't judge Christianity by those who do not follow its teachings - you don't judge MIT by the students that flunk out - judge it by what it teaches and what it stands for - In the Middle Ages leaders in the Catholic Church did things that were unchristian - today there are many people who profess to be Christians but don't live as a Christian - Jesus addressed this situation - "not all those who say Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but only those who do the will of the Father" - and "at the end many will come and say that they did this and this in my name but I will say to them depart from Me - I never knew you " - so what I am saying there are going to be a lot of so-called Christians who will be in for a big surprised because they do not live according to His teaching - People who claim to be Christians but who do not live like good Christians are a big hindrance to the spread of the gospel

As a young kid I was made to go to catechism every Saturday morning where I was taught my prayers and the basics of being a good christian. As I got older and able to think and reason for myself I soon learned about priests diddling little kids and the church elders squirreling these perverts away and out of sight. Then I read about the Catholic church aiding Nazi war criminals to escape prosecution after WW2. My dad was a very devout church goer and never missed mass. He died shoveling the driveway on a Sunday morning trying to get out to church, then the priest was late for his funeral services w/o offering so much as an apology.
That was it for me. I have no use for any church or feel a need for their teachings and never will. And I have lived my life with the basic philosophy of help my neighbor then myself. That's good enough for me.

Brainwashing is all it is. JoePa , I could go on for pages refuting everything you said, but you would not believe me anyway. Brainwashed.

Joe.
For what it’s worth.
“Only my god is right”
Some believe this, or that. Some worship the greenback, some science. Some Allah, some Buddha, some nature, like FNs and Pagans.
Interestingly, you’ve been slammed for your beliefs. Repeatedly. In a thread about racism, bigotry and intolerance.
Me, I have fundamental problems with religion, not faith. We are very spiritual, the missus subscribes to spirituality, the “universe” and what not. Me, similar but different.
I’d rather have “faith”, than be soulless (faith in nothing)

Why disrespect an individuals believes so long as they are peaceful and break no laws?
Do you actually think you can see everything around you?

I also witnessed and saw the corruption early on some 40 years ago within the catholic faith. It runs right up to the Vatican. It was taken over by the Jesuits in 1540 and gone downhill ever since. Soon, it will all spill out to the public. It is run by Arturo Marcelino Sosa Abascal , the Black Pope.
"The Catholic Herald criticised Sosa for being one of over 1,000 signatories of a 1989 letter welcoming Cuban dictator Fidel Castro to Venezuela in 1989, Castro having repressed the Catholic Church in Cuba during his time in power.[13] George Neumayr of the conservative American Spectator described Sosa as a "Marxist", "a Venezuelan communist, and modernist".[14]"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arturo_Sosa
https://vatican.com/The-Society-of-J...-Jesuit-order/
"Due to Ignatius's military upbringing and the fact that the society's members were willing to accept any mission anywhere in the world and become soldiers in the interest of their faith and the church, the first lines of their order's founding charter states that the Society of Jesus was suitable for "whoever desires to serve as a soldier of God". Ignatius was their first leader; the title which he took is superior general."

Just as an FYI, if it matters to you or not you are praying to Allah every day, it is the same God.

I should respect the person, I do not have to respect their beliefs. Would you respect the idea of the sun going around the earth? Noah's ark? Talking snakes? Do you respect scientology ? Or how about Jim Jones?

If someone wants to believe in whatever it is that gives them structure, makes them tick so to say.....then all the power to them. I was raised going to church, and had attended 15 funerals by my 14th bday. Was it a coping mechanism, sure, did it help.me through tough times.....sure. I would love to believe daily that there is a lake full of fish up there, where there's a line of past buddies waiting to hug me and high five, maybe go fishing with Gramps again.....but I have a hard time wrapping my head around it. I do know, when I lose someone close to me, which has unfortunately happened too many times....I tend to go back to my roots, and talk to the man upstairs......because it helps.....helps me......
This isn't a test run................Enjoy er'.......
