Joe..were you born into a home with strong Christian believes ? As a child you were probably 'indoctrinated' into faith by default. Very few people become religious later in life if they were not exposed to a religion during their formative years.
As a result, that is why the numbers of people who identify as being "Christian" has been dropping steady. Fewer are being born into practising religious households.
Stats: % of people identifying as Christian's in Canada:
In 1991 83%
in 2001 77%
in 2011 67.3%
I know locally a lot of the churches have closed due to lack of a congregation to support them. It's sad to see that if you desire a Religious life that it's become more difficult to find a Church to attend.

That is why the 'born again' crowd has 12 children. Nothing to do with birth control, they know that they are a dying breed.

I've not mention my beliefs at all.
Science continues to work towards explaining these things, that is part of science, finding things that you do not know and pursuing them not sitting back and saying that there are no answers.

I must congratulate everyone on the way contributors to this post have acted for the most part - we were able to discuss a controversial subject in a mature way without blasting each other - there is always a tendency not to talk about certain subjects because they are controversial but when that happens we never really get the feel what other people think and why - we should be able to discuss anything with an open ,fair mind and with respect - let me just leave you with this one last thought - if I am completely wrong in my belief and at the end there is no God and I cease to exist like everyone else - we are all in the same boat - I lose nothing - on the other hand if I am right then some folks will be hurting - big time - Amen
I know I will not be hurting when I die, the pain receptors in my brain will have shut off, no feeling at all.
There are so many religions out there how can you say that yours is the correct one? Do you feel that you are saving people by using the words that you use with regards to religion? Do you feel that Jesus was a white man who felt that mixing of races was wrong, I am pretty sure that Jesus would have been some shade of brown as he was born in the middle east before the major movement or people.
You say that you are not trying to push your beliefs but would you really walk into a room and say "Racism - True of False, discuss" and just sit back and watch it hit the fan. You do this continually here, you walk in, throw some backwards belief like this or that Christ is the saviour or that the woman's place is in the home, etc, etc just to be that guy, it really is annoying for those who grew up with friends of different cultural backgrounds, but you can blame my parents for raising me around those who were not homogeneous.

37,000,000 x .67 = 24,790,000 brainwashed Surgeons, scientist, etc. that are being insulted
I would say for myself, I was closer to aetheist during my formative years. Far more spiritual today.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...inds-1.4095208
A new Forum Research poll, commissioned exclusively for the National Post, shows two-thirds of Canadians are spiritual while just half say they are religious. And a quarter of those who profess “no religion” still expressly believe in God.
https://nationalpost.com/holy-post/o...-not-religious
And this one, seems to suggest there might be a bit of resurgance. Whicg given our immigration might make some sense, and immigrants being insulted.........

Should we be surprised by some of the intolerance and bigotry on display
Not really.
With respect to "society", morals and values. It starts young, comes from our parents, who in turn...During our formative years, experiences and environments..Help solidify our own personal "compasses"
Those bloody brain washed religious people.
Just largely responsible for our laws, morals and values.

Working towards subjects they can't explain because they are not scientifically possible, is where skeptics refuse to acknowledge the unexplained..

Fox, all we have are generalities. We could spend all day finding different polls. All 3 I linked are somewhat in line with the stats Mike linked. The first one has about 1/2 the population as either devout or privately faithful (given some comments I wonder why) . Another 30% spiritual. And around 20% aetheist.
Are you suggesting people like Obama.....surgeons, Drs, scientist, and on and on. or that the pool of non believer's ( 20%).......
“Religion” definitely seems to be on the decline. Despite that, the vast majority of Canadians....
