Schmidt said Nixon plans to start charging Albertans for access to day-use areas of provincial parks.
"I asked the environment minister if he could commit to not imposing new day fees on Alberta families enjoying our public parks," Schmidt said. "And he said there would be new fees."

Seems we are well ahead of Alberta on this. I can't remember not paying day use fees in a provincial park. They are just playing catch up in that area.

I just looked..boy have they gone up, I used to pay $6 (Day Pass) to get access to the boat ramp, they are now $21 ...$16 for senior. !!!

In Northern Ontario, non-residents of Canada 17 years of age + must pay $15/night to camp on Crown land. The rest of us can camp for free for 21 days, then have to move at least 200m.

That's one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" sort of things. We used to see a lot of Americans plunk themselves down on a crown site for most of the summer for free. They'd bring most of all their groceries and buy only the necessities. License and booze? There were however, many that travelled around, enjoying what the north had to offer. When Ontario began to charge them for the camping, many just said to hell with it and stayed in the U.S. Of course its gotten much worse since 9-11 since they need a passport now. Not many will bother with the hassles and extra expense to come over to a non-friendly atmosphere.
