    Default Locking down seniors

    Put into perspective....

"She wonders what’s the point of vaccinating everyone if they are still being confined to their rooms — a move she feels is “cruel and unjust."

“If I kept my dog locked up in his crate 24/7 for over a year I would be arrested and hauled off to jail for cruelty to animals,” Cooper said. “Yet keeping seniors confined to their rooms 24/7 is okay?”

In a related story on the news this morning...overall only 51% of the LTC staff are vaccinated. Almost 50% have declined the shot, so the threat of the vaccine in the building is still there.

Do they not trust the vaccine ??

Note: my Mom is in predicament. ALL residents in her home are vaccinated... twice...but there are still restrictions

Thats actually a bit strange, here, there was no option for LTC staff. Staff either accepted the vaccine or found another job unless they already had a medical reason not to be vaccinated.
Many people open to sit it out at home figuring a place that was understaffed would need them back but this has not happened to date. Must be a lot easier to look after the old folks that built this country if they are locked in a cell.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

Same here. I cannot visit my Mom at the retirement home (not LTC) because I am not on the vaccinated list. Yet, all residents have been vaccinated.
So, WTF? If they are protected, what's the issue? My choice if I want to risk covid or not.

Furthermore, I can pick her up at the door and go for an outing, take her shopping, whatever! Again, where is the logic?
Cruel punishment for our seniors and a crime against humanity.
On a positive note, yesterday my brother pulled her out of there and took her to his son's home where she held the newborn baby only a few days old in her arms. It brought her immense joy and made her cry.

They open themselves up to human rights complaints and lawsuit as no one can be forced to accept a vaccine.

Some (most?) Public ones are unionised....can't be forced.

What I’ve been told, if there’s a outbreak and your NOT vaccinated staff will not be able to work. This apparently applies too LTC and hospital’s.

Not quite accurate. My daughter works at a LTC home. The vaccine is only rolling out in the last little while.
Staff are tested frequently and if one tests positive they must quarantine.
The vaccine is not a condition of employment albeit highly encouraged.

Remember. The vaccine is to protect yourself only from getting really sick. It does not protect anyone else even if you have the shot or not.
You can still carry the virus even after being vaccinated.

Not disagreeing with you. I’m a truck driver and I deliver nursing supplies (Medical Mart) to LTC in Mid-western On. This is what they are telling me...don’t know [emoji2373]

In my 3 decades in LTC. If you did not get the flu shot, you could not work, if the home was in flu outbreak. Not mandatory to get one , but it could cost you work hours. We had 95% compliance. I don't know about the Covid shot.
