I tried a couple turkey loads in my shotgun over the weekend. at 50 meters out, we could only get 2-5 pellets in the head area. Huge spread over the 50 meters mark, pellets all over the place.

I have a improved cylinder and a midified choke.

should I get a full choke ? or try different bullets ?

any Fav choke for turkey out there ?

870 rem improved cylinder #4 5 or 6, all on paper at about 40ish yards max, i dont think ill shoot beyond that, ive learned with deer too that i like to be closer to them, i dont like taking long shots, not that im not comfortable its just i like to hunt closer rather than father, more exciting for me i guess. id rather be in the bush scanning than scanning an open field.

ok thanks everyone. Following the advice on here I wanted to find out my range and pattern.
makes sense, at 35 meters we had very good pattern, most pellets on the paper at least, but then at 50 it was too scattered.

so I guess my range is around 30-40 meters max. ill still try to pick up a full choke to get it a bit more dense and practice more at 35meters mark.

Ya turkey killing is all about pellets in the head and neck. Pellets anywhere else just become teeth breakers.

You should try a full or extra full "turkey" choke. It will give you a better pattern at extended ranges. That being said, even with a turkey choke I'm hesitant to shoot past 40 yards.

Indian Creek has been good to me in my two Mossberg shotguns.
I did try many other chokes, Winchester long beard and the stock (Turkey) Mossberg were also pretty good.
    yes 50 m is a long ways. I pattern at 30 and 40 yards.
