Garage Budget
Considering building a second garage on property, what should I budget for a 30x30 garage? Anyone else build something lately. Please share budgets and size.
Thanks

Well with lumber being 300% higher this year I would consider a Quonset Hut or other steel building.

Built one last fall, 24x30. Spent 8000 bringing the site to grade, cash for all the cement work, rest of the work was done by me. Total is about $25000 right now, just have to finish insulation. and drywall. Neighbor built 24x24, all outside labour for $30000. That included lots of grade work. No interior finish in his apart from electrical.

My buddy put up a Steel building 30X40 with 16 ft ceiling about 3 years ago cost in total with him doing the electrical and interior walls. Paid for grading and concrete floor as well as paid help to put the building up total in I think was around 50K

Yes. Price of lumber is crazy right now. I was suppose to build some decks and a huge dock but I will put that project on hold for now.

Lumber is definitely going to catch you. Especially the roof trusses, if you can even get your hands on them.

I got a quotes last week for some P.T. 2x10 from two stores, while I was in the store with the cheaper quote on the weekend I heard that lumber was going to go up on April 1. So yesterday thinking I was going to save some money I placed my order and was shocked at the price $1 350 for just a few boards, I cancelled the order and went to the other store and got the same order for $960. If your looking for lumber now or in the near future it would be a good idea to find a store with old stock because when the new stock comes in so does the mark up.

I put a 20x20 addition on my garage a few years ago. Block foundation, typical framing, steel roof, fully insulated and dry walled, woodstove, I’m at $27K with much of the work by myself

Wow, quite the difference. Sure was worth shopping around.
