Dog Waste disposal

Doing a bit of research before sending request to my city to help improve awareness for proper dog waste disposal.
Is it illegal or bad practice to dispose of dog waste bags into storm sewers and open waterways?

This isn't to target dog owners but to protect environment and teach kids good practice.

It was an eye opener this week.
We did an environmental day on Good Friday to remove litter from a large water calming reservoir.
This is a spot where water flows in from the storm sewer system, to settle debris out before it goes into farmers canal system to water vegetable crops.
The number 1 item removed was water bottles.
The second most popular item is dog waste bags. A surprising unbelievable amount.
Turns out it is very common practice that people dispose of the dog waste in the storm sewers rather than carry home for green bin.
These filled and tied bags now flow out and collect in these green spaces.

Few minutes after finishing, it was a bit much to watch a vehicle pull into the green space, park, walked to the water reservoir and throw in two dog waste bags and leave. Going out of their way to litter in this green space.

Also witnessed this week a person living around the corner, pick up dog waste from lawn with a shovel and dump the waste into the storm sewer system. The sad part, it was more than triple the walk to the storm sewer than it was to his green bin. Using the storm sewer system as the dog waste disposal system.

Please share any knowledge on rules for dog waste disposal & disposing waste into storm sewers to help correctly write my letter to city to support proper procedure for animal waste disposal while not saying anything negative about responsible dog owners.
Acknowledging the balance between the animals natural right to go vs ignorant human behavior by a few in populated zones.

Showing the kids by example to keep our local green space beautiful and local grown crops safe by keeping water E.Coli counts low.

Follow that guy next time put some bigger piles against his front door lol. I'm glad I don't have that issue I just toss it into the bush.

Some people are just pigs with no respect.

680 radio just had a report on city crews cleaning up dog waste to recycle into gas for their vehicles. A public awareness program is in an effect to encourage people to dispose of dog waste in green bins provided at dog parks to aid in recycling.

Spring is the worst time to see the effects of winter dog poop. All winter, people collect it in bags and then throw the bag in the bush??? What is the point of that? At the conservation areas we visit, the bushes are full of blue bags . Gives us some good exercise in the spring, picking up bags , but it is ridiculous.

Spring is in the air with the sweet smells of thawing poop ; )

Here in Bradford, pet waste is allowed in the green bins so shouldn't be any reason to do composing in the sewer systems instead. Or do detours driving from dog park to dispose of waste in waterways rather than waiting to put in the green bin at home.
Our Green Bin pick up is weekly.

Still disappointing watching someone drive out of their way to throw bags of dog poop into the water way just minutes after we walked the shore removing these items. I even had my waders on waking in the water to remove litter.
We only stopped because the pick up was full of garbage bags full of water bottles and dog poop bags.

Hopefully we can get city support to help with environmental education by sharing info on the problem and post signs to help people be more aware of issues caused by their actions.

I have a big enough yard for my dog to play so in the spring i just shovel it up and toss it under the lilac tree right where the ashes from the wood stove go.

We back onto farm fields so I take my Jack Russell/cross to the fields or the grassy areas between the field and the ditch.
In the winter I just take her to our side of the fence row that is lined with trees.
No one walks in, or uses this area so I can't imagine this is going to be a problem for anyone. Just gives the local foxes and coyotes something to mark.

Other than helping the wife pick up pop my dogs have left in her plant beds, I never pick up poop. The boys do their business out in the hay fields. Come winter they do it in the yard, but I just run that over with the lawn tractor when I do the spring de-thatching.

Nice organic waste I paid good money for, so just spread it around. HaHa.

There is something really wrong with a person who would bend over with a baggie to pick up a dogs steaming poop, put a knot in the bag then throw it into the bush.

Bylaw staff have been checking green bins and garbage bags since there's been so many complaints from disposal drivers and handlers because of homeowners failing to recycle and contaminating green bins and garbage bags. There were green tags on bags and cans all over our neighborhood last week. If it doesn't improve,there will be tickets issued. I think they're $150 each.
