Tick and Lyme disease?

Just picked up some Ultrashield EX from TSC. Figuring on using it this year for sure. Both me and the dog. Better save than sorry...

Word of warning to those that are considering this stuff. IMO, I don't know what's worse, the Ultrashield citronella smell or the ticks LOL. I tried this on my hunting clothes a while ago and the citronella smell was unbearable. My buddies stayed away from me (as well as the ticks LOL) because it was so strong. It took me 6 washes to get the smell out on my clothes. I really wish they made it unscented like the sawyers stuff.

If you spend any amount of time in the outdoors, it's a concern.
I had it in 2017. My younger brother had it last year.
This is up in Renfrew county.

The product is designed with Citronella for the Horses.....keeps the flying insects of them. It works great to help, mid turkey season, when the Black Flies and mosquitoes come out.

Yes that is correct, it is designed for horses. Maybe it is ok for horses, but on hunting clothes it is really smelly and extremely long lasting (the odour that is). For those that are concerned about controlling scent, this is not for you. I doubt any downwind deer, moose or bear will get within a kilometer of it lol. I guess a turkey will not care less.

If you wear it in your truck, your truck will smell of it a long time. Also, I hate to be out in nature sitting at my stand or blind, and all I smell is citronella - I love the fresh air when I go out.

You can get sprays with the same content, I could only find it in twice the concentration to what they use on clothes so I watered it down and used a spray bottle from the dollar, the first post I made this year on here showed someone using a version they got in Canada.

I use it all the time, but the trick with it is to let the sprayed items air outside for a few hours after spraying. I have been doing this w the Ultra Shield for the last 3 years, and always let everything air out outside after spraying...the citronella odour seems to mostly go away after 3-4 hours outside, and I have never been really bothered by it once it airs out.
But i have never hada single tick on me in 3 years after using it, so it works great!!

What area/wmu?

We have hunted the same area in southern Ontario for a number of years now, and last year was the first year ticks were ever seen (By us). Three ticks latched onto two different hunters. We were in the area for 5 days. One hunter had the tick tested and it was in fact the type/kind/species that can carry Lyme disease, but was not infected. Based on that experience we will be taking precautions for ticks...

Or just spray all your gear 2-3 days beforehand and leave it the garage to air out...the product stays on your gear a good 2-3 weeks effectively before re-applying

I spray it on a 2-piece camo rainsuit, then, after airing it out, I seal the suit in a garbage bag. I don’t put the suit on until I get out of my jeep to hunt, and rebag it after I’m done hunting back at the jeep. The suit doesn’t need a respray for at least 3-4 weeks, depending on how often I was out hunting. I would never wear rhe sprayed outfit in the jeep!
