I have always had a dog. The previous dog I had to my current dog is the only one to need surgery out of maybe 10 dogs over my life. When I considered the cost of the insurance to that of the vet costs over all that time it made more sense to set aside aside bit of money every pay cheque as a vet fund. Has its own bank account even. The vast majority of the vet cost I have experienced is routine and never seemed to be covered. There is also the question of how far I was willing to go with surgeries etc when considering outcome potential and quality of life. In the end I felt it was a better decision to simply save some money.
