The Village Idiot promised to fix that...got him a whack of votes for making that promise too...then he discovered it wouldn't serve him well, so he reneged on the promise.

The world is run by the people who show up. We live in a participatory democracy. If you don't participate don't piss and moan about the result.

I have a golf buddy who never votes. When he starts to complain about the government, any government, I try to shut him down by saying he lost the right to complain, when he did not vote. It usually quiets him down.

The fact is only 2/3 of Canadians vote...(less than 50% of population) yet that apathy seems to be of no concern. The Liberals said they would try to get more representation, but reneged when they discovered it would have cost them the election.

This is from Wiki; :voter turnout for elections since 2000..

The 3rd column from the left is % voter turnout by electorate , the last column on the right is the % of population that. (from link below)

For those that say that it is the immigrant vote that puts the liberals in power, stats prove that the most recent Canadian citizens are the least likely to vote. You know the, English is the second language, 'peons' from the cities. If we follow the reasoning of some people, would that not give the Liberals even more supporters, if they voted?

If you don't vote in every election you are entitled to, you should not be reading let alone posting in a political forum.
Canadian Men and women have died by the tens of thousands to protect this right to safely cast a ballot for your choice to be heard, even if it is a blank ballot. Use it wisely while you can, as many countries do not have the choice.
On another site I read a statement that epitomizes what this freedom entails.
We have 4 boxes to choose from for our freedom, and they should be used in this order:
    1- soap box
    2- ballot box
    3)- jury box
    4)- ammo box
I really hope I do not live to see the need to use option 4 in my lifetime here in Canada, but many countries in the past were surprised at how fast this has happened in their own lands.

Essentially.... look at Germany 1931 to German 1940.... and with COVID as an opportunity 2020 to 2030, the internet and computers etc. to track/monitor everything.... 2020 and 2030...
Well those that don't vote are just practising to be serfs.... no say in their lives, just "own nothing and be happy"

Further to what Trimmer and Mikepal said.

The fewer people that vote, the more weighting those that do have. At the end of the day, first and foremost they all chase votes. An argument can be made, that with First Past, the fewer people that vote, the better for them.

Regardless, both here and in the US, the divides are getting wider. The polarization worse. And as more and more of the Center is “lost”....
