Blew it
Was all set up just before legal yesterday . After an hour of nothing I finally hear a Gobble up on the top field and then a second one getting closer. Sneak up to have a look and there are two hens and four Tom's. They're in the neighbors field so I sneak up to the fence row and watch. The two hens are coming right at me with a pretty good pace with the Tom's following. The hens get to the fence and fly over to my side 30yrds away. The 4 Tom's stop at the fence and start following it walking past me within 15 feet. They kept going and I circled down hill to get ahead of them hoping they would pop out on my side of the fence. Nope, walked right on by me again. I kept following but got busted and they took off flying.
Back out today and haven't seen or heard one of them. Guess I spooked them pretty good.

Last year I got lucky and walked up on a bird and got the drop on him, managed to tag him. All the other birds came to me. With eyes and ears better than humans hard to sneak up on them. I believe in most cases its futile to try and get closer. Best to study them from afar and plan an ambush for another day.
Time in the outdoors is never wasted
