    Smile Last chance for turkey!

last day for turkey is Monday! who hasnt filled their tag yet?

i know ive had a bunch of chances but just havent connected yet.

will be finishing work around 5am tomorrow, ill be going home, taking a shower and heading straight out, ill be staying there till cut off. its become a personal goal now.

#1 because this will be my first bird of any species.

#2 because these turkeys seem to have me all figured out lol

#3 because i am very determined to get one this year.

im very skeptical of using a blind especially because ill be getting there after dawn.

ive tried a burlap and im convinced they know that its not suppose to be there and dont come out/ stay very far in the distance staring in my direction. these group of birds are on this property everyday i know for a fact at this point. its the same group of 5 or 6 males every time i go up.

last week when we got out it was a steady wind at about 15km which made the whole bush line wave and move. Had a tom on the other side of my pocket that just didnt want to come over but stayed on the bush line staring for a good 10 min then continuing to walk and the repeating.

the forecast looks like itll be a wind at about 5-10km. im hoping it isnt as bad and doesnt give them to much caution to come back out.

i think ill only be taking a butt pillow and sitting on the floor in between some shrubs on the tree line.

last week at 6:55pm i had a tom on my left who i was trying to get closer to me, when he headed off into the bush i looked to my right and another bird was right there and darted off around the corner, i got up and sprinted around the corner didnt see him, was on a fast walk pace, gun shouldered walking down the tree line 70-100 yards later i get to the end of the pocket and right when i let my gun down i hear a crashing right infront of me seen a flash of red through the thick bush and gone.

disappointed (and a little angry) i packed my stuff and started walking to my dads truck. as im walking the bush line which at this point is only a couple pines and on the other side my dads truck, a turkey flys out of the tree above me as im under it and POOPS EVERYWHERE as its flying. nearly hit me but just missed.

I wish everyone the best of luck today tomorrow and monday!

Well I wish you good fortune...sounds like your doing most things right , so you should eventually click.

Turkeys don't spook to something new in their area. I use to hunt next door when it was an active farm. The Farmer used to work late some evenings and leave the tractor on the side of the field. The Turkey's used that field every day and I watched them walk right past it with nary a sideways glance. I've set up a pop up the night before on the same field and they never even looked my way.

They respond to movement and sound...and I mean even a snapped twig at 200 yrs will get a set of eyes on you in a heart beat. Just lifting your gun over the fence rail will catch their eye. Have to go very slow and wait till they look away.

Anyway...hope the fates are with you tomorrow !!

I had a half-hearted attempt to bag 1 yesterday and this morning, great time with no bugs at all. Snuck within 30 yards of 2 does that were never sure what I was, and got to watch a crap load of baby bunnies bouncing around everywhere. All done for the morning, just washing dishes at the cabin and look out the window to see a hen walk within 5 feet of my shotty at the picnic table and the tunes playing on the radio right there. Maybe that's what I need out on stand, tunes. Just gotta decide if the big toms are rockers or country. Good luck to anyone else giving it another try.

I did my final sit this morning hoping for a bird. This was my 5th time out this spring and although my buddy did bag one opening day near me I was not fortunate enough to call one into shooting range. Lesson learned. Next year, buddy stays home....lol

A deer did present itself to check things out at 10:00 am. Kind of odd but entertaining nonetheless.
At 11:00 am, the farmer started spraying the field so that was it for me.
To everyone who filled their tags, Congrats!

Sadly, I only made it out opening day. Work and preparing our boat did not offer me much time in the turkey woods this spring. Good to all that put lots of time in this season and congrats to folks that were successful.
Hoping next year I will have more time to hunt the thunder chickens

ah well, didnt see anything today. heard some gobbles but nothing. bugs were brutal. and we did not take into account how high the grass was going to grow in a week LOL. stuff was like knee high. brutal. i ended up sitting on the field edge being able to see down the field edge and into the bush. no luck,

Fall here we come, hopefully the bugs are long gone by then LOL.
