Default Sign of the Times: Help Wanted

I saw 6 shops in Kemptville with 'Help Wanted ' signs and heard from the other merchants (CT and BMR) they are short-staffed.

Didn't think much of it but saw a News article on CTV...'Help Wanted' signs are everywhere, lots of jobs and no applicants.

I guess till the Liberals stop their experiment with Pandemic UBI, the flow of CERB money, there will be no interest in getting off Mom and Dad's couch and getting a job.

You are aware that the individual CERB benefit ended in October of 2020.

There's still many programs available pertaining to the pandemic recovery. It's like the gift that keeps on giving on the taxpayer's back.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

the real problem is how these businesses go about hiring people.

you submit your resume online and a algorithm goes through the resumes and searches for key words.

if it finds none on your resume, its basically deleted and no human actually ever reads your resume.

i was searching for a job right when the pandemic started, had absolutely no responses, until 3 months ago when i got hired at home depot.

trust me theres lots of people applying. some of my coworkers work 2 jobs, (overnight) and then during the day.

people need money trust me especially now.

And those go to the business do they not?

Perhaps if those business paid a living wage, people might be more interested.

You should be aware that they just changed the name to to CRB with the same payment but took 10% off the top, so $900 every two weeks. The NDP is pushing the feds to keep the benefit going, go figure.

And did you read the eligibility? Employed or self employed. Seems like it is slanted to those that have lost their hours. You can’t collect it if you are on EI.

That's not how many small businesses work. Around here many places are posting on FB looking for help. My grand daughter just got a job at a local restaurant in Almonte and they were still advertising for help yesterday after close to two months of posting.
I agree with Mike. I see signs posted in many local businesses looking for staff. That includes CTC and IG. With the shortage of people willing to work they sure aren't using algorithms lol.

That's the way it should be. Double-dipping should be punishable with jail sentences. All these "benefits" should be cancelled now that the pandemic is almost done with. When people won't take jobs because they're getting enough money on the "dole",it's time to shut it down.

The benefits for business and the individual all flow through CRA, I suspect the reckoning will come for those that abused it. Also, we in Ontario aren’t back to fully open. Once that happens, one would think that those emergency programs would end.

And probably just in time for a federal election.
