[QUOTE=Species8472;1166583]I try to ignore spin and just look at facts but being human impedes that. It is human nature to spin any and all things to fit the narrative and agenda that one supports. The far left, the left, the middle, the right and the far right are all guilty of it as is every religion ever invented. Spin is meaningless and generally detracts from any type of meaningful discussion.

This also qualifies as spin to me:

You are a proponent ideologically of basic income and as such you take the excess deaths and try to spin them so they might support basic income. What reality is that based in? Any facts to back that up or is it just an opportunity to push your idea that basic income is a good plan?[/QUOTE

    1. It’s not my idea as you suggest.
    2. Who says I’m a proponent of the idea?
    3. Meaningful discussion should be encouraged. The few who attempt it here are met with contempt, scorn and encouraged to remove themselves from the discussion.

The drug crisis and the correlation to the despair that many people had to face over the last year is a interesting read. Who knows, perhaps basic income might have had an effect on those numbers?
As far as the drug crisis - it would have made it worse.
That has been studied prior to the pandemic. Where there are drug problems, attempting to remedy them by increasing the users financial resources only results in worsening the problem.

The other think with opiod deaths - while they do affect the down-and-out crowd some, most of the deaths are in in middle income groups - recreational users having accidental overdoses.

CameraCutter: you brought the concept of basic income into the discussion and now deny that you are a proponent….losing credibility fast bud

It’s a point of discussion. I’d need to know what it looks like before I’d be in favour of it. If it replaces other social services like welfare and EI, perhaps it’s cheaper in the long run? And as far as my creditably, I’d you actually think I give a rats arse what the preconceived judgements of others on here matters to me, well let’s just say it doesn’t. So feel free to use the ignore feature.

Priceless. Reminds me of a government tactic used by both Conservatives and Liberals….they have an idea that they’d like to implement so they “accidentally leak” news of it and see the public and media reaction. If the reaction is bad, it was “just something that a junior staffer was working on”….if it’s good - new government policy !

if you weren’t in favour of a basic income you would never have mentioned it, but go ahead and sit on your pretend fence.

How come many many members here do not have meaningful discussion ???At the other hand, there are the" few" -apparently the only ones ,who can do meaningful discussion here?
Who is to decide about what is a meaningful discussion?

    Crimes against humanity!

"The consequences of government-enforced lockdowns killed more Canadians under the age of 65 than the COVID-19 virus itself, according to a report by Statistics Canada.
In a report titled Provisional death counts and excess mortality, the government agency reviewed the number of deaths between January 2020 to April 2021 and concluded that 5,535 Canadians under the age of 65 died because of “indirect consequences” due to the pandemic.
Over the same time period, 1380 Canadians in the same age group died because of COVID-19 itself."

Additionally, here are month of July stats of 2021 vaccinated versus 2020 non vaccinated.
Draw your own conclusion about the effectiveness.
