Bear bait where you deer hunt
Hey everyone, was wondering what your thoughts are on putting bear bait on the same property you deer/moose hunt on. I have a mix of deer/bear and moose hitting my mineral sites and was thinking of putting a bear bait up. I would try and keep the bait away from our deer stands as far as I could of course. This particular property is 100 acres or so, would that be too small of an area? With scent of bait and more frequent bear activity there, would it spook the deer to much? Thanks guys

We had a bear bait barrel up, being hit daily, with tons of fresh deer tracks going right by it, between the bait and the tree stand.
The deer live with the bears all the time, they know how to avoid them, it is not like you are flying in bears from hundreds of kms away, they are on the property.

I have only been baiting bears for two years mostly for my son who always says he wants to hunt but seldom gets the time.
I do not think the deer are bothered by the smell of the bears or even the Moose and I see evidence they seem to use the same trails.
My main problem is I will be attracting bears into the area and am I putting calf's and especially fawn's into more exposure to predation. Its kinda a mixed bag, if your a successful bear hunter you probably help the deer in the area, if your not how much harm could you be doing by bringing in multiple bears.

I was concerned when I first started bear hunting but not any longer. I get bear deer and moose pic at my bear bait stations all on the same day and sometimes minutes apart

Just gets expensive on Deer bait when Bears move in. My property used to have a Sow with three Cubs, huge Boar and a smaller one. They damaged my permanent hut and smashed a few ground blind.
It’s not a good feeling when you leave your blind at night to go back first thing in the morning in the dark to find it flattened and full of claw marks with content spread all over. Once you set it back up it sure is interesting to wait for daylight. Haha. I had cash crops so when it was corn the Bears moved in regardless what I did.
Good Luck

Unlike Deer Hunter, I haven't had any damage done to my stands or blind, but they sure can clean up on the apples and corn I put out for the deer! Lots of cam pics of bear and deer coming into the bait within a very short time of each other.

Bears can be a nuisance if you have bait and trail cameras out for deer and moose. As mentioned above, bears will consume the bait and damage cameras if you aren’t careful.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I think I will give it a try and set a bait up, il try to keep it away from my deer stands the best I can. It will be my first time going for bear, it’s not looking good for moose tags, so it will give me something else to hunt this fall aside from deer!
