Email from RCMP that I need to apply for ATT again? spam or real

I got the letter at the first of the week and the e-mail on Thursday.

Got mine in the mail today.
Basically, now, your PAL-connected ATT is only valid to transport to/from an approved range OR for transport of a newly bought gun from buyer to your home.

ALL other types of restricted firearms movement anywhere else requires you to apply for an ATT to move it: e.g., to an exit port, gun show, repair, or verification, registration or disposal.
And the bottom of the letter has a section that has to be cut out and carried with your licence at all times.

In other words we are going back to the same restrictions that were in place before the Harper government loosened the rules. Getting a short term ATT isn't a complicated or difficult process. No big deal IMO.

I do not think these very minor changes to the ATT system will make Canadians safer. I also don't think the changes are that big of a deal. I've never had an issue getting a short term ATT.

I am surprised though that an ATT is required to take your restricted/prohibited in for destruction. I had thought the government would be encouraging turning them in as opposed to putting in a paperwork requirement.

Kinda strange but I notice there is no place on the website that show what restricted's I have registered.

Looks like you'll get it snail mail eventually. This was in the email.

No. The letter removes conditions that were put in place by the CPC government. All other conditions such as trips to approved ranges remain in place.

Here's the body of the email:

A change has recently come into force to the Firearms Act as part of Bill C-71, An Act to amend certain Acts and Regulations in relation to firearms. The change has resulted in the removal of the following conditions related to the transport of restricted/prohibited firearms from your licence:

• Transport of restricted firearms and/or prohibited firearms to a port of exit, in order to take them outside Canada and from a port of entry.
• Transport of restricted firearms and/or prohibited firearms to and from a gun show.
• Transport of restricted firearms and/or prohibited firearms to and from a business that holds a licence authorizing it to repair or appraise prohibited or restricted firearms.
• Transport of restricted firearms and/or prohibited firearms to and from any place a peace officer, firearms officer or chief firearms officer is located for verification, registration or disposal in accordance with the Firearms Act and Part III of the Criminal Code.

If you wish to transport your restricted/prohibited firearm for one of the above purposes, you must apply for an Authorization to Transport to your Chief Firearms Officer. To contact your Chief Firearms Officer, please call 1 800 731-4000.

All affected licence holders will be mailed a formal notification of the changes to the Authorizations to Transport, including your current updated licence conditions.

Thanks, what a bunch of BS. So essentially the government supposedly trusts me to go to the range but if I was to go someplace else they think I will go beserk??
