Getting close to that time of year.
This will be my first every fall black bear hunt ( archery only ). I won’t be able to access my planned hunting spot until September. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Ive excluded my first ever attempt at a trickle barrel. I put in numerous holes ranging in size from 5/8” to 1 1/8 “. There is 9 total with 7 being of the smaller variety. Any constructive criticism is welcome.
Im gonna be using popcorn, deer corn, hog feed and maybe dog food. Basically all dry ingredients. Probably have a burlap sack of butcher scraps hung in a tree as an attractant.
Best of luck. Bears are pounding my bait right now. Going through 70 lbs per day at one site in particular. Hard to keep up when you only have 1 day a week to re-fill.
The wilderness is not a stadium where I satisfy my ambition to achieve, it is the cathedral where I worship.
My cousin is heading to our camp Saturday to start baiting our sites in Burks Falls. I am heading up the long weekend to continue. We are hunting from Sept 10th to Sept 16th.
Best of luck to all this fall
Good job on the barrel firedeptit.....we use dry dog food, molasses and bulk chocolate in all of our barrels and have had good success. I usually spray anise high on surrounding trees as and added scent.
Guns have two enemies................rust and government
I would close all those hole except for the top one, at least after they've found it. The bears will still go for it but your bait will last way longer and keep critters around as they will have to work harder at it. Also be careful with round holes, depending on the size small paws and arms can get stuck in there. Square holes will prevent that from happening.
Good luck
