    Default Fall bear hunt

Where are you going and what are you using, rifle, crossbow, compound or recurve? Also what is your rifle, crossbow, bow set up?

I am going to Burks Falls Sept 10th to 16th

I am hunting with my 300 Win mag using Hornady 165 grain GMX. If I get lucky before the hunt is over and harvest a bear I am using my Excalibur Matrix G340 with 150 grain bolt cutters for my second bear.

    Good luck everyone

Are you going with an outfitter or on your own...
Good luck as I have no current plans to get away. Wishing I could, but don't think I will be able to make it out this year.
    Best of luck

If I get to go this year,it'll be a spot and stalk at the spur of the moment type deal. A few of us are heading to the camp for Upland, waterfowl, some are doing the Deer hunt and if Mr.Bruin shows up,it'll likely get whacked if it's a biggun.

    In answer to your query:

Crown land in the general vicinity of the Nipissing South shore (closest community would be Nipissing village or Restoule). Sep 7-12. Using the climber and either the 308 with 165 grain accubonds, the matrix 380 with Zombie Slayers and 125 grain fixed blade G5s, or the 35 Whelen with 250 grain partitions.

Setup is a couple of baits set close to a large system of beaver ponds. Access is by canoe via the beaver ponds with the put in on the side of my drive way. Shooting options range from about 22 yards to 70 yards depending on the wind. All shooting done from the climber at heights that vary from 10 to 22 feet. Whatever tree i end up in will likely determine my firearm choice. I like the 308 for the 70 yard option, the 30 to 70 yard choices and it is the Whelen. Sub 30 and it's the Matrix.

My question for you is are there second tags in Burk's Falls this year? or are you planning to party hunt if you tag out early?

Whenever I plan on how my second animal will be hunted I seem to not be able to take care of the first one. lol

Nothing really planned, if I see one on the way or at the camp I might shoot it if it’s not too big and not too hot.
.308 or .30-06 with Trophy Copper or Nosler Partition.
If my nephew comes for grouse, I might set up a bait for him close to camp.

My cousin and a good friend have 500 acres in the Sprucedale area. He is heading up on Saturday to start baiting for a week. My wife and I are heading up Sept 3rd to the 5th to carry on with baiting. The bait sites should be in good shape when we arrive on the 10th to hunt

How do the Accubonds perform for you? I have read mixed reviews on bullets not holding together as advertised.
I have no experience with them but am interested if they work well.

Taken maybe a dozen deer and half a dozen bear with accubonds. Never had an issue - all dropped withing sight. That being said i am not pushing them with a 300 Win Mag. A 165 grain bullet is only 2700 fps out of the 308. Out of a 300 mag you'd be pushing 3300 fps. At 3300 fps i would not be surprised if there were fragmentation issues at close range.

I wondered the same when I read that, as I know I can't get a second tag in the Sudbury area, but I'll have to go look and see if that has changed.
