Surely the point was not to make it 'a skeleton in the closet hunt,' for those having already been granted a firearm license, and have a clear record.
The government's language specifies the expanded background check applies to an applicant who wants to acquire a license not one one who is renewing.

The legislation requires expanded background checks over the lifetime of an applicant seeking to acquire a firearms licence rather than just the five years immediately preceding the application.
It makes some sense to keep guns out of the hands of someone with an extensive criminal history right up to 5 years and a day before he applied for a gun license.

Your argument makes no sense at all. An individual vetted the previous five years and deemed OK should continue to be approved.
There would be no hiding anything especially if they have been through the court system. It is simply a witch hunt now.

You simply cannot go back in time and invent reasons to deny. It is not unlike sexual assault charges appearing out of the blue 35 years later.
Anyone who supports this is a Liberal Commie.

You missed the point…AGAIN!!! A new applicant has not been vetted for the previous five years. People renewing a licence won’t be subject to lifetime scrutiny,( but I wouldn’t bet on that).
The actual wording in any new legislation will be important.

A new applicant will have to account for everything in his background not just the past five years meaning a history of criminal activity or domestic abuse that ended 5 years and a day previously will be part of the decision-making process.

Deeper background examinations of renewals isn't part of the current program but I wouldn't have a problem with it as I've held an FAC/PAL since my early 20's.

Any thinking individual knows that all these gun control measures will do squat to help prevent criminal use of firearms. Yet people keep voting for this corruption…..go figure!

Trudeau makes it sound like this will stop all gun violence can he be that stupid really?

Loved O’toole answer last night. Yes I will support assault weapon ban but will also go after smuggled and illegal guns

O’Toole support for 1978 assault weapon ban

Trudeau was just asked and he let it slip his ban means all guns not like O’toole play on words Trudeau mentioned nothing about going after illegal guns

It’s not Trudeau who is “that stupid”, although he is…..it’s the people that vote for him who are !!
