So…. Finally was able to get into the woods yesterday. Gates were opened when I came home from work on Friday.
I was like a kid at Christmas.
I did a quick scout ( just reconfirming a previous hunch )and determined what hopefully is a good bear spot.
Since all the hunting I do is on foot ( no ATV ) I wanted to get the truck as close as I could to bring all my stuff in.
For years I’ve been asking the kids if they want to come with me ( they’ve always said no ) and this year my son blew me away by saying he would come help me set up.
I don’t care if I harvest anything this year. That was the best day I could ever of had.
Nothing ever beats a father / son day.
I have been enjoying that for the last 29 years.
This afternoon we are sighting in our crossbows together in preparation for the October hunt.
I was talking to another member here about the same thing a while ago. Was determined to get his son out there with him but his son didn't have to much interest at the moment. They come around sooner or later!
I was one if those kids at one point, was to concerned about videogames and friends to want to get out with my father.
I can proudly say tho that the last 5 or so years has been great. Great bonding time and once you get out there once its a lifelong bond.
Watch out! He might start bothering you to get out there more than you can handle hahahah.
Congrats none the less, the tradition will be passed down hopefully!
Reminds me of my first harvest at 15. Decided to sit with my dad for the first time on a bear hunt and 10 minutes in I take a 220lb sow. 20150905_221029-1.jpg

Right on. Seeing as how you are on foot I have a suggestion for you. Get yourself a hood from a small compact car and rig it up with a longer tow rope and drill some holes if needed along the sides to hook some ratchet straps on to secure the bear. If I recall 15 feet is the optimal tow rope length for easiest pulling. Carry a come along with you for hills. That big gal in my avatar we had a 3 wheeler but also had a 12V winch bolted on with a battery strapped on it to get up one longer hill that the trike couldn't manage. You can see it in the background. Worked great. Good luck with the young lad, great memories.
