Buying guns then never shooting them?

I just did it again.
I bought a really nice rifle, a Model 700 stainless fluted in .300 Savage (100th Anniversary fancy-schmantzy), unfired and mint.
Before I shot it, a local guy sold me back a really nice Model 99 in .300 that I wish I'd never sold him.
I only need one .300 Savage around, so I plan to sell the 700, but hesitate to fire it because the value will drop by a bunch.
Mind you, if it doesn't sell, I'll likely fire it and take the loss, lol.

It is really not, 300 Savage brass made by Winchester is $44/50, Lee dies are cheap and work great.

SFRC near Kingston has Federal 150 and 180gr ammo for under $50/20, so like the price of 303 Brit now.

I see this in the buy and sell sections all the time, CGN has a lot of them.

Guys that are not dealers are selling guns that "I never fired".

I am not being critical of it but I am curious as to how many people go out and buy guns just to resell them? Seems odd to me.

I am not speaking of collectible arms, hunting arms.

I have purchased many that I had good intentions with but they never ended up in the lineup. It’s not a surprising thing to me when someone posts that they’ve never fired one

Impulse buying. Happens with guns just like anything else. Go to a gun store and handle a rifle you really like, Gun guy let's you know it's on sale, You think your due for a new gun so you buy it.

Get home and couple months later you pull your old faithful out of the safe and think I don't wanna replace this baby yet....


New gun goes up for sale again, I don't think I've ever lost money on a gun in resale when it's still NIB. I usually only buy when it's a deal anyways.

Guns are a great place to put extra cash that don't need to sit in a bank or that the good wife don't need to know about.and can easily be turned back into cash should the need arise.

It is a BIT pricey, but ammo is available at Canadian Tire and I handload. And I got 4 boxes of ammo with the rifle.
Also, I travel the Arctic for work and find some good deals on factory ammo at times. It would seem a lot of the Co-Op stores got shipments containing ammo that local hunters don't use, so it's been sitting a long time with the old price tag on it.

Spending that much on a gun and not shooting it is a complete waste of money. Guns aren't a great financial investment but a very good fun investment.
