Buying guns then never shooting them?

Spending that much on a gun and not shooting it is a complete waste of money. Guns aren't a great financial investment but a very good fun investment.

Well, depends on what guns you spend your money on.

I have one that has increased in value by about 12x since I bought it 18 years ago, still killing deer with it too.

If you buy new garbage then sure, but classics do not lose money, unless they get banned by Justin.

hah only gun can think of me buying and never shoot is one of those big boy, 5 grand + shotguns LOL

It's all about perspective they may cost 5+ but they are built to be used , heck I've seen shotguns worth 2x that bouncing around on a quail truck, there is nothing nicer in firearms in my opinion then a beautiful shotgun or rifle that has a story to tell and pass down.

I believe it's possible depending on what you paid for it. Good guns do retain value but not many enjoy a multiple return on initial investment. Not a single gun I've owned has out performed my investments in stock markets and precious metals.

But guns do hold value longer. When friends say I'm crazy for paying five figures for a shotgun I ask them how much their snowmobile cost, when they bought it and what it's worth now. When we compare notes the conversation usually moves on to other topics.

A $5K shotgun will hold its value you better than any sled or car

No, they are probably not going to do as well as my investments either, but I am not losing money, they have all done better than inflation, so better than leaving the money in a savings account at minimum

Plus, then I have the joy of shooting them.

I am curious what the really old ones will do for value, would a 150 year old gun gain at a faster rate than a modern run of the mill gun as rarity goes up.

It's all about the market....really old guns do far better being sold down south where there are more collectors with deep pockets. If you leave them in an Estate you'll get better return for them in an auction house in the US than one here. A friends buddy passed and his instructions were for his widow to contact the auction house in the US and sell the collection there. Not a bad deal, his lifetime hobby of collecting netted her over $1 million US..

At the last Carp Gun show I was at..I bought a few things from a lady that was left her husband's Hunting Stuff and she wanted it to go to a good home. She had it priced right and sold a lot....but if in the end she got $2K she would have been lucky.
