A hunter shouldn’t lose any points until he actually accepts and pays for the tag. He should keep his point totals if he doesn’t claim the tag.
I agree ! Groups are very much in play in Ontario, and MNRF take this into account. A moose hunt wouldn’t be much fun if you had to only hunt solo, not to mention the difficulty handling a downed moose by yourself. One reason why they allow a transfer with more stringent conditions.

I don’t think anybody would disagree about groups being relevant for moose hunting. What was said is the tag allocation is not about groups anymore. In the past we have applied as a group and had the ability to transfer a tag within the group. Now, there are no groups. I still think that if you got a tag and can’t go, with legit reason you should be able to turn in the tag and keep your points. I hope this doesn’t effect many.

Transfers might be harder and should be, but any person should be able to return the tag they applied for and won and get all their points back to reapply for the next years draw.
I could actually see tree huggers and PETA people starting to apply for draws to build up points under this new system just to burn a tag and save an animal. Not really to far outside the realm of possibility.

Don't go giving them ideas! But seriously, not the first time I've heard about this and not surprised at the lengths they're willing to go to.

Pretty confident most people if excepted a moose tag and the had to under go cancer treatment the last thing they would think about would be worrying about a moose tag, and if your hunting buddies were worried about transferring your tag your hanging out with some people that really don't give a about you,

Then you go do cancer treatment and say F the moose hunt this year.

What happens if the only person in your deer party to get an antlerless tag cannot make it, you move on with life and hunt bucks only. The same applies to a moose hunt, if you already have your stay booked and you are going to be SOL on that then turn it into a fishing and small game hunt and move on with life.
