I replace mine in the same spot every year when the snow is gone, I believe early spring into late summer is when the deer need the nutrients the most, whether for antler growth or lactation. Rarely see any animals on the lick come fall time into winter, at least compared to the numbers I have early in the year.

This salt lick (buried) was put out mid fall for the hunt season...and wasn't touched. I went back out in Mar and saw that it was actively used over the winter.

So I finally decided to do the drive and check in on my 2 spots....can't believe someone actually stole the lick off the ground on one of the spots. Hopefully my chained cameras stay on for the next few months...frustrating

You sure it was a person, reason I ask is................ I got my young hunter to put up a camera and a salt block. It has been there for a month, he goes to replace his camera card only to discover his salt block vanished. He too thought someone took it but after looking at the camera pics it was racoons removing it.
He has the camera set to 3 picks every 5 seconds... So it shows them (almost comedian like) rolling/pushing it out of camera range. He never die find it yet.

I read on the web that the Bear took the salt block ,
also years ago I had a big plastic pan with 75 kg road salt
and next year found 50 m away empty with predator teeth mark I assume Bear or Wolf no camera picture
since that I bolt the salt block in the wood box with iron nail throe the block

masonry drill will do the job

I bury mine. I found that deer don’t normally touch the block but eat the soil around it. Burying it makes bit dissolves faster.

^^^ this.. dig hole put granular in and cover. Most "deer" blocks are over commercialized and over priced. Keep it simple.
