Guelph Police respond to single call regarding vaccine passport non-compliance

Guelph police responded to just one call Wednesday related to the launch of Ontario’s requirement for proof of COVID-19 vaccination to access some indoor spaces.

Approximately 11:15 a.m., staff of a restaurant on Stone Road West called to report a male was refusing to show proof of vaccination and refusing to leave. Police arrived a short time later to learn the male had since left the restaurant and staff did not wish to provide further information.

Beginning Wednesday, people are required to show proof of vaccination as well as government-issued identification to access thousands of non-essential venues including restaurants, bars, sports venues, gyms and theatres.

Those who fail to comply may be removed from the premises under the Trespass to Property Act.

We will see more of that I'm sure. My neighbour owns one of the local pubs in downtown Burlington and like it or not he putting a bouncer between the front door and the hostess (his neice). It is amazing how quickly people stop chirping when you are at risk of getting the crap beat out of you.

While a person may be irritated by the requirement for the vax cert, it is completely wrong-minded to take it out on the staff. They are just trying to do their job. They have bills to pay like the rest of us and are just trying to get by. Given the labour shortage in the service industry, we should be a bit grateful that they are out there at all.

The only mistake he made was leaving.
Take the bogus fine and fight it, it will never see a court date.

If he was being violent or harassing others (you know, committing an actual crime) then police could remove him from the premises on those grounds. And I would be all for that.

This is a huge violation of our rights. It's simply a directive, not even a law or mandate.

Businesses that think complying with this nonsense will save them...they'll just get shut down again anyways.
Everyone should stand up and refuse to go along with this. Just like the police refused to enforce spot-checks a few months ago...look how quickly that fizzled out.

There is a surprising amount of business on the news that have stopped inside dining, doing only patio and take out rather than make their staff deal with the Vaccine Passport Demand and check. Some have said they don't want to dedicate staff to ask for the ID, others have said they don't want to put their staff in an unsafe environment having to deal with the issue.

Poor way to stimulate the economy with this pointless nonsense.

How does this directive make any sense whatsoever...you can walk around the mall without a mask all day long, but you can't sit down and eat some food?

You can eat on a restaurant patio among other people and go inside to use the washroom. But you can't dine inside.

    Beyond absurd.

It's simply about humiliation and compliance, not health. A punitive measure.

Big talk 4100, the bouncer will probably be wearing handcuff's faster than he can blink, I think most bouncers know the score so there is very little risk of getting the crap beat out of you. Remember most everybody has a recording device these days.

I wonder what would happen if a ten person group showed up for a reservation and all but one had a vax certificate? Restaurant says "Sorry, you can't come in" and ten people say "See ya".
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....
