    Default Help Wanted

In my life time I have never seen so many help wanted signs as I am seeing these days - it seems business can't find people to work for them - I am not sure what is happening but I guess so many people are getting along without working so few people want jobs - I drove into the city this morning and must have seen a dozen signs seeking workers - interesting times to say the lease - there were times when jobs were hard to come by but now it is just the opposite

Do those jobs pay a wage that provides the American dream.
People used to go to work because they could buy a house and raise a family.

I think too many people are still collecting money from the government making them not wanting to work.

Yup, millions of North Americans have grown up thinking that the best place to get money is to have your hand out to the government. Dangerous.

Millions upon millions of others figure it’s ok to live life on credit cards. What else can we expect when governments lead by doing it.

I think this is just another example of how capitalism isn’t working. Companies are too concerned with profits not paying decent living wages. Getting the most out of people for the least.

Seriously ??..I guess you're one of the ones that believe we should have a Universal Basic Income and jobs creation is left to government-run facilities and work camps. You don't own anything and are happy HaHa..

Your right Joe, my wife's sister was in town, so were we doing a lot of driving around the amount of 'Help Wanted' and 'We're Hiring' billboards was astounding. Even A&W has 'Job Fair' signs out. Never seen anything like this in all my life.

Yet the Government is still paying out taxpayers' money in emergency aid for people who can't find work due to the Pandemic. Yet businesses are operating on reduced hours and limited service because they have no staff.

I think the tap gets shut off this month...hopefully that will force people back into the work force.

    Yes seriously.

If many companies treated their workforce better, there would not be the need for all these help wanted signs. Workforce retention is a problem today. Gone are the days of yesteryear when you could start at a job and climb the ladder of success. Some companies put profits ahead of everything. They trade one high paying job for a newbie they can pay less, then they recycle that position as they need. It’s not a new problem.

It doesn't sound like you have a grasp on how the workforce works...reminds me of those kids graduating from University and thinking they deserved a 75K starting salary HaHa . ( have meet a few)

When you have no skills, no experience to can expect to land a job that is minimum wage. You are not entitled to anything higher. Almost everyone starts out working in low-paying jobs, especially without a diploma or skills in the needed profession.

Not because the boss is cheap, but because that is the reality.

Had this conversion with a young lad just a few weeks ago, He was complaining a new guy on the crew was getting paid more than him, even complained to HR. Turns out the 'new' guy came from another company with 2 yrs experience so he was able to get a secure a higher starting salary.

That is what Capitalism does, opens the door for those that are educated, have skills and work hard.

The issue is that corporations are working on a work around for all these low skilled labour issues. I was in Boston (pre-COVID) and saw a mock-up of a project for Amazon that uses bots to stock and pick orders (not humans). The stock shelves have rails on them and these bots can stock shelves and pick orders 24/7 AND there is no need for the wasted space of isles between the shelves so each warehouse can see an increase in capacity. They are also looking at automated delivery services (drone and/or vehicle).

I have mixed feeling on the living wage thing........when do you talk about a living wage? Tim Hortons or McDonalds - should they pay a living wage? Have these service jobs historically been required to provide a living wage for a family or is this just a recent thing or have they always been been transition jobs (part time/student)? What are people doing to hone their skills so that they are in demand for better paying jobs or are they waiting for the gov't to hand them something? I see such a large shortage in skilled trades so why are not more people following this path?

Paying or offsetting someones wage so that it is a living wage seems backwards to me.

Sadly your type of attitude is way to prevalent these days and is going to be the downfall of capitalism

No company owes you anything. If you work hard and are a valuable employee you will do great in the job world

If you think you deserve a good high paying job right off the bat I can’t blame you because that is what we have taught people for the last couple generations but it’s flat out wrong

Businesses are in the business to make money. That’s reality. Help them do that and you will be treated very fairly. Stand around with your hand out and not so much
