Thanks all for the well wishes - appreciate them.
So after 3 days things seem to be moving in the right direction. Knee which was very painful at the time basically was fine the next day. Ankle is a different story. It was worse the next day but showed improvement by Sunday and today is maybe 50% so don't think anything too serious is wrong.. Basically i have stayed off my feet for 72 hours and am now getting cabin fever. Figure i will be good to ground hunt by tomorrow pm. May have to recruit help if i get something though.
Aiming to be back in the climber by next weekend.

Climber actually had nothing to do with it. Was on the walk out in the dark i just wasn't paying attention as i have walked the area 100s of times. Wasn't even carrying the climber as i had stashed it in the bush. Old age and complacency will eventually kill me no doubt when added with my tendency to do things solo.

Sometimes, movement can be the best medicine, I'd be lacing those boots up tight to the top for sure!
Just the story makes me cringe a bit, I hate rolling an ankle, sometimes it takes months to heal. Good to hear it's not more serious.

Yes good ankle support is very important in the bush.

Has too much time on their hands
I could feel that one while reading!
Dislocated my patella this past turkey season while guiding and had to be lifted on a Polaris by the fire department back to the ambulance from the bush... torn MCL, MPFL and meniscus damage. Some fentanyl through IV definitely helped when they reset it!
Take care of them knees!

Well thought i was on the mend but seems things have regressed in the last day or two. Knee which seemed better the next day is now a mess and i am on crutches and thinking i may actually have to get it looked at. Whiskey and ibuprofen are not cutting it anymore.

Hey Species, sorry to hear about this.
Might be able to help you out here having shared a common ailment.
Gout was famous (in me anyway) for hitting me while I was down. Any injury to a joint would be followed by a bad gout attack in that joint. Try whatever anti-inflammatory drugs you were using for gout. Could be it. I used to get gout attacks after a cold or flu too.
Haven't had it back in years, thankfully.
Hope that helps.
... forgot to add, I got it in my knee frequently, and one of my more recent attacks a few years ago was after hurting my knee on a camping trip.

Thanks G. Actually just started taking some stuff for gout tonight - just in case it is the culprit. Haven't had an issue in a long time but who knows.

I'm far from quick to run to a hospital for minor ailments from strains and muscle pulls but if I had heard pops or snaps and been down for an hour like you were I would have headed in for ultrasound or xray imaging. The longer you wait the worse it may get. Good luck with it.
