Nice, I found the same thing this year (off the main roads). But, 4-7pm they seemed to be everywhere.

Yes definitely, I was also doing good between 9 and 11. I don’t go at first light anymore Grouse seems to like sleeping in…lol

This is my typical timing, I've even seen them fly down from roosting in the spruce around 8-9 when the weather is sub 0. Later start is a little easier when you have a long drive to find them. Early season I prefer the evening hunt if I have time after work.
