Potential cougar sighting rural west end Ottawa
Picture taken yesterday by a resident with a wild game camera.
I find it difficult to judge the body size from the photo.
"Captured a picture of a Cougar on wildlife camera at 2 am this morning. Just beware that it is in the area."

If you judge the size by the road or trail it’s on, it doesn’t appear big enough. You can also get some context by the trees in the background…Also, the tail is not near long enough….but, that’s only my opinion…

I agree with you. There is currently a math expert crunching numbers after a request was made for the resident to measure the diameter of the tree and the animals distance from it. I'm watching the thread and will see what he has to say about it. To me, it only looks like a big stray cat but keeping an open mind.
Resident: "The tree in the background is 28” at base and the “cat” was 15 feet away from the tree hope this helps"

It's a house cat. I'd bet money it's not a cougar.
But I wanna see another pic of a person standing in the exact same spot, For scale, to be 100%

Looks tiny to me. Could be a stray cat possibly.

If that was a cougar the biggest tree in the background would have to have a 7 foot diameter....

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?
