A good rifle hunt, despite not seeing a thing
Well, my wife saw 4 and got her first, a doe.
She was invited out by another member here, MikePal, he had a stand setup with corn for bait and set her up on that for a couple days. She made a great shot with, heaven forbid, a 30-30
, the doe dropped and never moved. Later on in the hunt she was able to see 2 more does, 1 at 20 yards and 1 directly under her stand, very close and a very good experience. She has hunted now for a number of years, broken up by having our kids, but now that she got her first she is ready to go hunt every day she can, she is hooked.
On top of that I was able to get a 161 year old rifled musket checked to figure out its maximum range with the current configuration and was able to take it out for 3 nights in a close quarters hunt. No deer happened by me but just to get a gun like that out into the field was really cool.
It was just 3 of us hunting together this year, due to job changes and babies on the way, so 2/3 of a nice doe in the freezer here so far.
The controlled hunt still for me and bow late in the season to fill my tag but happy if I do not see a thing.

Good work on the doe. Nov 20-21 should be good for late cruising bucks.

Congrats on your wife getting her deer!
The old .30-30 has probably put more venison in people’s freezer than any other calibre over the years.

Funny enough, she wanted to go the blind but I said that since I had limited range I wanted the blind and she should go to the big stand, that is where another doe went under the stand, was broadside at 10 yards. If I would have taken the stand I would have been able to get a shot, but the risk was seeing a monster buck at 200 yards. The blind had max shooting of 50 yards.

She did very well....and she also dove in and did the majority of the 'gutting'. The makings of a good hunter under Fox's tutelage.
Always nice to be part of a hunter's first kill...

Ba ha ha ha
Funny enough one of our friends jokingly mentioned sister wives, she has 3 kid. I do not think I could take having 2 wives in my house, let alone 5 kids on top of that.
