Gilroy,
There is a really great podcast called Hardcore History by Dan Carlin.
6 part series with in-depth coverage of WWII pacific theatre.
Not just events, but rather decision making and atmosphere of the time.
Would really recommend to listen to it prior to giving ideologic rants about it

No thanks, I have read plenty of books on the CIA and where they injected their dirty hands, trying to overthrow any country they believed may pose a remote threat to America. Maybe you should read a few books, Iran/Contra Affair, Ollie North, the lies used to start wars in Iraq.

Since WW2, the US is 1 for 5. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan lost or a draw. The 91 Gulf war is about the only win.

I did. And the only conclusion that I came to is
the reason we are all sitting on it cozy couches in warm house with full bellies chatting about what is right and wrong IS because all those "not so righteous" decisions were made back in day for us.
Would love too see your righteousness about bombing, if it was you or one of your kids to be scheduled as first assault wave to invade Japan islands at WWII
or if middle east was to cut off oil supply to west for GOOD nowdays
Or some lunatic develops a nuke and actually launches to this soil..
The history is made of ugly decisions and its very easy to be an "armchair general" and blaming those decisions while reaping of the benefits of them (that includes both US and Canada)

Reply. If you really did read about American foreign policy over the past 50 years you would appreciate that they have a lot of innocent blood on their hands. They have supported Dictators all over South America and caused much harm.

Reply. We are talking about the bombing of Japan with two atomic bombs on top of 800,000 civilians. It is estimated the yanks killed 207,000 civilians in the unjustified war in Iraqi . At least you ADMIT the recent wars were OVER OIL and that was the motivation for America to get involved in the Middle East wars and hire herself out as a mercenary army to the likes of Saudi Arabia yet another dictatorship. You know the country where they murder American citizens in their embassy and chop up the body.
Or some lunatic develops a nuke and actually launches to this soil..
Reply. Once again we see America having no problems courting disaster, Donald Trump being the best friend to Mr Putin and Kim Jong-un.
I guess one Dictator should not criticize another when they have actually used the bomb.

Reply. The only armchair general is you sitting there pontificating about Americas justification for killing civilians worldwide because its in her interest, a nation that has lost its way and no longer trusted by allies.

Considering they have lost 65,000 service people to suicide since 2010 in the USA, more than the deaths in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan combined could we say they won any war.
COST OF WARS VIETNAM $843 BILLION 58,220 deaths.
AFGANISTAN $910 BILLION 2,285 deaths.
IRAQ $ 1,01 TRILLION 4,410 deaths.

Just think of the number of " cozy couches in warm house with full bellies " AMERICA could have provided to the World's poorest people?
What do you think Joe, is the World now a better and safer place with all these wars and casualties for America or are we far worse off?

All wars are fought for only 2 different reasons: Money or religion/politics.
No one ever really "wins" in a war, except a little teeny weeny minority at the very top of the pyramid who probably felt justified sending people to there deaths to fight for the beliefs of themselves.
It doesn't make it right for either side, but ideals like national pride, protection of home and family, or stopping what you believe is an unjust tide of evil will always bring people to a point of fight or bow down to authority.
Human nature is what it is, and until the world is given a global dose of Prozac it will always continue. The have nots will always want what they do not have, and often do not care how they get it from others be it by war or invasion.
Our western values are different from the values of a famine stricken village in Africa or a small town in N. Korea and I believe they would have no issue taking all your possessions for themselves if given the chance.
Human nature.
