I hear ya though, I want to anchor them right there or I keep banging. Last 2 deer I shot they took off like I missed. Blew the first ones heart in half and double lunged the second. They ran threw a bunch of golden rod and blood was minimal the first 20 yards, Good thing I had a view of which way they ran or else you almost think you missed.

oh dont say that, i shot at a buck like 20 yards with a gun this year. put the scope in the boiler room and pulled the trigger. didnt bother to shoot again because i was so sure i hit him. watched him saunter into the bush and then no trace of him. we searched all day and no blood no nothing so we assumed i missed. i pray i missed but i feel like i wacked him good

Double lunging is the best way to go in archery, ethically too- and saves great amount of meat compared to some other ,equally lethal hits(except perhaps neck shot with a gun).
Almost always the animal will run off ,and will have about 15 sec to live.
Depends on the speed and terrain ,15 sec equals 100-250 yards ,in great majority of cases.
No dog and if not enough blood will make finding the animal very difficult.
The more the trackers know about tracking wounded game ,the better for the outcome.
Then we throw in poor shots , animals making a move at the last second-tracking is a way of life for many.

The least amount of dragging an animal out of the woods to the trail is success...lol

Hardest one we ever tracked was a buck. Decent blood trail but he couldn’t get over down trees and would back track to find easier path. Made for different recovery

The high shoulder shot will drop him in his tracks. I’ll take a neck shot if the deer is close enough and standing still. The white throat patch makes for a good target. Not a lot of room for error though so it’s mandatory that your sites are dead on.

shot one of my bigs bucks couple years ago at 20yd with Xbow. He run in a cut corn field for 300yds the whole time I was looking at my bolt than back to the deer as it ran. was sure I missed but how. No blood for until i got almost to him. if he had run into the bush I would have assumed i missed. Through and through both lungs.

Not true. Ive shot two deer that went 100+ metres with "boiler room" shots. One had no exit wound and was shot in a place with literally hundreds of deer tracks, so nothing else to go on. A very frustrating tracking situation.
