No such thing as overkill. Use whatever shoots best in the .270.
I like #4 buck, 00Buck and 000 buck out of full choke. All 3 pattern good in my gun so I shoot all 3....should test your gun to see what it likes....mod choke might be better.
3.5" 00 buck is my favorite, 18 pellets.

Be careful with bullet construction.
Coyote hunting with 270 on ground level can be outright dangerous(not that 243 or 222 or else is much better).
That is why they invented the varmint bullets-they disintegrate upon impact(hitting the target or the next twig)thus GREATLY decreasing your chances to kill someone in the next ZIP code.
Solid ,stiff or bonded bullets are the worst for ricochet or pass thru, leaving the area uncontrollably and flying into unknown.

12G slugs kill alot of yotes during deer season around here. when i rabbit hunt i pack slugs and #2 lead. if i know they are kicking around and im still wanting to be ready to shoot a rabbit, i'll just load up with #2 lead and you're good within about 50 yards.
as long as you dont care about the pelt, 270 will kill em dead.
