These types of investigations are fluid. What an investigator thinks today, may take a right turn next week. They will not, nor should they, release information that very well may change. The information will be released upon the completion of their investigation.

I hear you, but if you put yourself in the wife or kids shoes, it would seem wrong. It would be hard for the family to move on or begin healing.

The wheels of justice turn slowly which is a very old and true saying.
That may be true when investigating a crime where the perpetrator is unknown or details are unknown.
But in this case, it is only police that are involved.
The whole thing reeks of an obstruction of justice.
That it is police who are obstructing justice - well - the whole damn bunch of them should be fired.

I can say it’s not pleasant being an involved officer, and not knowing what’s going on either…This is one of the major complaints both police and the public have, with SIU investigations. It’s been like this since SIU were formed.

No its not only the police involved the SIU are involved and they are the one's charged with conducting this investigation. They need time to get to the bottom of this incident. You cannot fire the police for invoking their charter rights and remaining silent as this right is afforded to all persons. You cannot force them to give a statement as it would not be voluntarily given and therefore not admissible in court.
You have to remember these officers are represented almost right away by lawyers provided by their associations in almost all incidents and the first thing a lawyer is going to advise you is to remain silent.

I agree, in most cases keeping quiet is the smart thing to do but I also believe police should be held to a hire standard when it comes to things like this.
I hear the words it takes time.... Just seems like it could have been figured out that same day, what went wrong/right. Why does it take so long. Is the SIU working on other cases too and only move ahead when pressured to do so, I guess I don't really understand what is taking place behind the scene. Is someone working on it today or ..............................

Every Officer on the scene that day knows exactly what happened.. the only chore the SIU has is to get them to admit it.

In 2020-21, 390 total cases were opened for investigation, representing a 22% increase from the previous year’s 319 cases.
https://www.siu.on.ca/en/annual_report_2020.php#s_13
Average Number of Days to Close a Case
For the fiscal year, it took 28.26 days to close a case by memo and 132.32 days to close by Director’s Report. There were 82 cases that were closed in less than 30 days, or 21% of total cases.
Some of the delay could be with the forensics as you know with the number of overall shootings these days. Then there will be more because of the pandemic situation and staff.

In my mind there's multiple investigations that should be taking place.
What about the police themselves? Did they investigate? What happened? Were the policies and procedures followed?
I know, we don't want them to investigate themselves unchecked, but that where SIU comes in, right?
Where is the frigging warrant? Who signed it? Why?

Like I said the incident commander and all the officers under his command know exactly what happened, no mystery, they have the answers. They train for these incursions, there is nothing left to chance, everyone has a specific task. So when something goes wrong...they know exactly the 5 W's.
The SIU just has to drag it out of them. That shouldn't take more than few days...not months.
