Yes they can definitely be finicky. I have also burned thought our monthly allocation of images because finches, blowing grass & leaves and even snow. We adjust the sensitivity of each camera depending on where it is located, the season, and what the weather is like.
I do wish Spypoint had a remote pause or on/off option in their app so that I can turn the camera on and off when I wanted to instead of having to physically having to be in front of the camera.
Although they are not perfect but when they do work they definitely save time and are convenient.

Remote power cycle would be a very, very, very useful feature, seeing as power cycling seems to be required pretty damn often.
A lot of the "upgrade your firmware" or "replace the battery" issues - its no the firmware upgrade or the new batteries, its that to perform this action, you power cycled the unit, which was all that was really required.
While they are at it, getting rid of the "survival mode" which reduces transmission attempts to one per day would make the cameras far more reliable.
What sort of idiot came up with the logic that if the camera is having trouble connecting and misses 4 consecutive connections, it should only try once per day.
If its having trouble connecting, shouldn't it try *more often*???

I have 2 micro's, one works great where it is, but will take a few pictures on a sunny day at a certain time, but it faces south. the other hasn't worked great all deer season been at 25% and red, most of the season. Does wake up once an awhile and send some pictures. I always cut any grass or weeds down so there is no movement as I found out the hard way you go through a bunch pictures. I also only have the cameras on during shooting times, as I don't care what travels past outside of shooting times. I'm about to bring he cameras in, will check of upgrades and see if I can get both working by turkey season.

I have also had problems with my Spypoint cameras. I purchased 2 micro link sle cellular solar cams and 1 crapped out under warranty. But they do not have any stock. Tried to upswell me as well. I have been getting the runaround since November. So frustrating that another camera Evo has acted up and sent me HUNDREDS of pictures of the same pic dated days ago. Naturally it used up my 100 free pics.
I am so fed up with dealing with the poor service that I can’t be bothered to contact them to replace it.
And now… the second micro Solar has bit the dust. Once again I’m going to just throw it out. These are 3 cameras less than 6 months of usage in the woods. WORST CUSTOMER AND PRODUCT QUALITY EVER.
I too was a loyal supporter of Spypoint cameras but would not recommend to anyone.
* BEWARE THE MICRO LINK SLE CELLULARS ARE NOT WATERPROOF.
