New Interactive Flood-Predicting Map

New Brunswickers can now zoom in to a visual image of their homes, neighbourhoods and communities to see how likely it is that climate change will create a risk of flooding over the next several decades.

The provincial government has released a new interactive provincial flood map showing different river and coastal flooding scenarios for today and for 2100.

Sabine Dietz, the executive director of CLIMAtlantic, a clearinghouse for climate research, says the maps are "basic" but valuable.

Most areas are already mapped by regional conservation authorities and indicate seasonal risks of flooding.
If your going to buy or build a home in a known flood plain.....well, let the buyer beware.

Typical remark in the newspapers-so residents can see how "Climate change "will put their property at risk of flooding.
Not ,living on flood plain. Unprotected flood plain.to boot.

Same like in BC-only conveniently omitted that the flood of 2021 reoccurred 3rd time in the past recoded history, with similar devastation effects.

Only 2 x in the past was no talks about climate change.

The old-timer back home knew-there are high water levels,then there is the 50 years flood,the 100 years flood and the 500 years flood.
Not that it occurred by exact anniversary-just ,it was a :"generally" accepted statistically proven reoccurrence. Each marked with higher and higher level of water.

So-they build levees to their financial might ,and set them to protect them at one of those water levels.

Plus-they even added the term-water level "with wind coming up on the river".
Thus each level would be expected to be even higher ,due of the wind keeping the water level higher.

But hey-what do those old people knew?
